Monday Morning Lyrics
There's nothing to do so you just stay in bed
Oh, poor thing
Why live in the world when you can live in your head?
When you can go out late from Monday
Till Saturday turns into Sunday
And now you're back here at Monday
So we can do it all over again
And you go aah ah ah
I want a refund
I want a light
I want a reason
To make it through the night, alright
And so you finally left school
So now what are you going to do?
Now you're so grown up
yeah you're oh oh oh oh oh so mature, oh
Going out late from Monday
chuck up in the street on Sunday
you don't want to live till Monday
and have to do it all again
and you go aah ah ah
I want a refund
I want a light
I want a reason
For all this night after night after night after night
Oh I know that it's stupid but
I just can't seem to spend a night at home
Cos my friends left town
And I'm here all alone now
Oh yeah they say the past must die
For the future to be born
In that case die little mother, die
Stomach in
chest out
on your marks
get set, go
Now, now that you're free
what are you going to be?
And who are you going to see?
And where, where will you go?
And how will you know
You didn't get it all wrong?
Is this the light of a new day dawning?
A future bright that you can walk in?
No, it's just another Monday morning.
Do it all over again, oh baby.
La la la la la la
Do do do do do do
Oh, poor thing

God, these lyrics can hit me like a ton of bricks... Somehow the guy managed to describe a part of my life back in 2006, when I was unemployed and pretty unsure of everything...
"In that case die little mother die"... God, my mom was such a pain in the ass during those days... And I often felt bad because she gave that stupid idea that the human being needs to work all day long in order to be "human"... But that's another topic. The lyrics indeed reflect an unemployed, not-sure-where-to-go young person thinking about his life. He spends lots of time at home, is a bit resentful at his friends (probably because they work and they study something and they seem sure of themselves) and wants "a reason", something that moves him towards some direction... Nice, nice song. Loved it.
This is a wonderful evocation of the feeling of anti-climax that comes with growing up and/or escaping from something you've been longing to get away from. It pinpoints the desperation that can come from being aimless and living a life without direction. It's the classic question: does my life have meaning?
The lyrics are quite literal - Jarvis took a couple of years out before going to college, and it's about him signing on, eating TV dinners and feeling lost.
This is basically a Saturday Night Fever song.
Saturday Night Fever! Fascinating.
Yes, a life dominated by looking forward to the weekend and living a pointless life of boredom during the week. Reminds me of how I felt when I was working in call centers before I finally saved some money and moved to China for a year.

I also think Santiagof hit the nail on the head as well.
