In The Darkened Room Lyrics
In a darkened room beyond the reach of God's faith
Lies the wounded, the shattered remains of love betrayed
And the innocence of a child is bought and sold in the name of the damned
The rage of the angels left silent and cold
Forgive me please for I know not what I do
How can I keep inside the hurt I know is true
CHORUS
Tell me when the kiss of love becomes a lie
That bears the scar of sin too deep to hide behind this fear of running unto you
Please let there be light in a darkened room
All the precious times have been put to rest again
And the smile of the dawn brings tainted lust singing my requiem
Can I face the day when I'm tortured in my trust
And watch it crystallize while my salvation it crumbles to dust
Why can't I steer the ship before it hits the storm
I've fallen to the sea but still I swim for shore
CHORUS
Lies the wounded, the shattered remains of love betrayed
And the innocence of a child is bought and sold in the name of the damned
The rage of the angels left silent and cold
How can I keep inside the hurt I know is true
Tell me when the kiss of love becomes a lie
That bears the scar of sin too deep to hide behind this fear of running unto you
Please let there be light in a darkened room
And the smile of the dawn brings tainted lust singing my requiem
Can I face the day when I'm tortured in my trust
And watch it crystallize while my salvation it crumbles to dust
I've fallen to the sea but still I swim for shore

this song is really good took me a while to get into it though
Seems like a child abuse/molestation song to me.
one of Skid Row's top 5 best songs PERIOD
Yes, this song is about child abuse... And to Bahnsenite, you annoy me, not everything is about god. And you act like Adam and Eve are your aunt and uncle.
@RunOfTheMill How bout people like you, annoy ME. Anybody that has a problem with someone trying to bring positivity is, to me, contributing to the destruction in this world. Don't you find that to be kinda retarded?

The song is obviously about child abuse. The band is not bashing God they are questioning why God would allow something so horrific. Unless you were sexually abused as a child you have absolutely no idea how abandoned you feel by God. I was molested multiple times in my childhood and regardless of my faith I questioned why such a horror was allowed to happen to me. Pretty standard, normal response. Skid row got into the mind of the abused and poetically expressed the feelings they experience. So please get off your soap box only speak about things in which you have a clue about. A molested child is taught to say everything is great and God is good. A person never heals concealing their wounds and denying their scars.
I remember sitting in a darkened church parking lot early one morning struggling with my faith. I had some questions for God. I have since (by Jesus' grace) had those questions answered. King David wrote in a Psalm that no matter where he made his bed (in Hell, or the depths of the sea, or in Heaven) God was there. So I don't agree with the opening line that claims there is a place beyond the reach of God's faith. He is omni-present. Even in Hell God's wrath will be known. Only a unregenerate heart would claim God is limited in His power. I like the comments by Justintime. It could be about those subjects. Consider that without God [Jesus] (an absolute standard of right and wrong) that those heinous acts (while temporally judged) go unpunished. It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. I thank God for His Light in my life. How do we reconcile a theodicy? Outside of the Christian worldview, evil doesn't exist. In an evolutionary materialistic universe there is a just physical pain. How does the Christian reconcile the evil in this world? They accept God's authority. God governs this universe by judging sin. Job questioned God on this matter, and in the end put his hand over his mouth, then said I cannot contend with the Almighty. If you have questions please seek pastoral advice. Read the book of Job, pray that God would open your mind and heart.
@Bahnsenite no one cares. Your mythology is YOUR problem. You think there's a diety who finds it absolutely acceptable to sit by and let children be tortured. I'd recommend you stop peddling your mythology in the comments about a song on child abuse that you fully know what you worship doesn't do a single thing to stop it... It either CAN'T or WON'T, there's zero in between and either way makes it worthless.

it's about the search for Christ. but also about child abuse. i think Sebastian is searching for Christ so he can see that there is also good in such a seemingly Evil world.
@sixx1980 it's fully ONLY about child abuse.

@sixx1980 I think it's about Sebastian's awareness of Christ, and thinking he's beyond salvation, kinda like in the song Quicksand Jesus
