Slave To The Grind Lyrics

You got me forced to crack my lids in two
I'm still stuck inside the rubber room
I gotta punch the clock that leads the blind
I'm just another gear in the assembly line-oh no

The noose gets tighter around my throat
But I ain't at the end of my rope

CHORUS
'Cause I won't be the one left behind
Can't be king of the world If you're slave to the grind
Tear down the rat racial slime
Can't be king of the world if you're slave to the grind.
Get it?

A routine injection, a lethal dose
But my day in the sun ain't even close
There's no need to waste your prayers on me
You better mark my words 'cause I'm history.
Yes indeed

You might beg for mercy to get by
But I'd rather tear this thorn from my side

CHORUS
They swallowed their daggers by turning their trick
They tore my intentions apart brick by brick
I'm sick of the jive
You talk verbal insecticide

CHORUS
I said slave to the grind
Slave to the grind
Slave to the grind

it's about how life sucks and everyone's corrupt and racist and the people in power put their beliefs and preferences over what most need and you can't do a damn thing about it because they think you're inferior even though you're not but it doesn't matter because they have power, they fucking like it, and they don't want you to have it so you don't because they do.

I think this is about not running in the rat race of moder life and letting it take control of you. You've got to do your own thing, be free and happy so you're not tied down and a slave to the modern capitalistic society - unless that makes you happy I suppose.

We're all slaves to the freakin' grind- we have to live by the timelines and expectations of those around us. This song is about breaking away from that and living your own life- something we can all take to heart.

Without going into great detail, Skid Row 's aural montage still portrays a stark, bleak world where no one merits trust, one's "friends" plot rapaciously against the others, and the economics of it all ( the rat race-ial slime ) will finally allow you to have your debt ( $28,000) paid off in 42 years paying the minimum cause it's all that's left after rent and utilities. That's the rat race, and if you depend on it for your survival, you'll never break free; you've become a slave to the grind of minimum wage and working for some real stinkers. If you aspire to prosperity, you need skills ( or marriage into that stratum) and a plan that can be a bit illegal during part of its execution ( just a very very little bit) and good timing. Good planning will take you farther in the long run of your ascencion ,and making good plans may require you to think and look at things differently, outside the box. Take that road that changes your life, and you are king of the world cause you refuse to be held down as a slave ,making other people rich at the cost of the years of your life you work for them instead of working those years for your profit.
