Shame On The Night Lyrics
Shame on the night
For places I've been
And what I've seen
For giving me the strangest dreams
But you never really know just what they mean
So oh shame on the night
Shame on you
You've stolen the day
Snatched it away
But I saw the sky
An I never want to die
Now you know the reason why
Oh shame on the night
You don't care what you've done
So I think I'd better run
Shame on the sun
For the light you sold
I've lost my hold
On the magic flame
But now I know your name
Oh lord just go the way you came again
Oh shame on the night
You don't care what you've done
So I know I'd better run
Repeat verse 1
You don't care what you've done
Here I go I've got to run
For places I've been
And what I've seen
For giving me the strangest dreams
But you never really know just what they mean
So oh shame on the night
You've stolen the day
Snatched it away
But I saw the sky
An I never want to die
Now you know the reason why
Oh shame on the night
So I think I'd better run
For the light you sold
I've lost my hold
On the magic flame
But now I know your name
Oh lord just go the way you came again
Oh shame on the night
So I know I'd better run
Here I go I've got to run

i think this song is about "night" he says "Shame on the night For places I've been And what I've seen For giving me the strangest dreams But you never really know just what they mean So oh shame on the night"
he talks about what night give to us the dreams which are not always nice about people who were killed and robed at night and all crimes which happens at night
This song makes me think of someone at the end of their life, yet doing all that they can manage to stave off the inevitable. Not so much from the lyrics, but from the heavy, oppressive feeling of the music. I love this song - I think that this is certainly one of the best songs on the album.
I believe that Robert James DIO was an initiated. He was really on something. Call it spiritual, esoteric or so. And that's why he joined Black Sabath, and then left it. Because he tought that he was going to find his in iniciatic path trough Black Sabath, but he did'nt. That's why he created his own rock band. DIO
And about Shame on the Night, he plays a double game, just like on Holy Diver. He's a genious, because he gave you something veru superfitial and easy to understand, but he gaves you lot more if you get deep on his song
Shame On The Night talks about how the night take away the light from us, our main source of life. But it also explains how the shadow on the human soul can take appart the most valuable things we have. Our sould itself.
Shame on You is a way to tell you that you're selling your most valuable part, wich is your soul, for something else
ThX and Cheers
Sorry I meant Ronnie James DIO

Woohoo! First post!
I can't believe my eyes! No one has posted yet!
And this is one of Dio's best songs. Shame on you!
The album Holy diver is about the struggles of the spirit (the good) against evil in the devils domain (that would be here on earth by the way). This song is (in my opinion) the frustration of the spirit who's realized that even his mind is infiltrated with darkness and evil and even the good and the light cannot free him of his bondage. Shame on the night, Shame on the sun, Shame on the whole situation .Here I go I've got to run...
At the very end of the song he says something close to "WE ARE THE TRUTH OF DIVER" What does he say ??Does anybody know??
@shawn65p crucify the diver
