I don't think they're trying to admit to "selling out." The guy has a family to support and he chooses to make his living through music. I assume he is making a modest income at best. Hearing some teenager cry "sell out" anytime anyone makes any money at all through music must get annoying, especially when the accuser has no idea about being totally self-supported.
