this song is just real, david gray gives you the perspective you need at the right time

This song is about breaking up with someone b/c he's young and need to discover who you he is in the first part. It then goes into that "oh no, what did i do" phase after the relationship ends", where he says "Why am I throwing away the best thing I found". Then he's genuinely distraught and miserable "leaves are blowing wind through the trees, i got no use knowing with time it will ease". think its about breaking it off with someone and coming to grips with it. I lvoe the lyrics and how he represents the different seasons that are passing such as (summertime harbour & sea, falltime leaves blowing, winter pale winter sun,etc.) i feel by the end he is OK, he knows who he is b/c of it and he knows they'll finally be OK even though its over.

I really like these lyrics.

I was dating a woman for 2 years, and had been listening to David Gray for years before that. But in the last year or less of our relationship David Gray was on repeat, and what i didnt realise until i actually looked at the lyrics, was this song was exactly how i felt in our relationsip....it blew me away. I love almost every one of his songs. i have all the albums. Its refreshing to listen to an artist that puts meaning into his songs.

The Song gives me a clearer feeling of whats it like to be in a relationship where you feel you are treading water and going no-where and you know you have to end the relationship and the (last verse I added here) is more like a consolation to the person being dumped. Its more along the lines of its not you but its me type thing.
