The Lazy Sunbathers Lyrics

A world war
Was announced
Days ago
But they didn't know
The lazy sunbathers
The lazy sunbathers

The sun burns through
To the planet's core
And it isn't enough
They want more

Nothing
Appears
To be
Between the ears of
The lazy sunbathers
Too jaded
To question stagnation
The sun burns through
To the planet's core
And it isn't enough
They want more

Religions fall
Children shelled
"...Children shelled ? That's all
Very well, but would you
Please keep the noise
Down low ?
Because you're waking
The lazy sunbathers ..."
Oh, the lazy sunbathers
The lazy sunbathers

Classic Morrissey. I find this to be one of his most fun songs lyrically, along with "Mute Witness". I think we all know some Lazy Sunbathers who just look good and seem to only care about themselves. Secretly, we are all somewhat jealous of them

This songs is extremely appropriate now. Many here in the state are concerned about the war and vacationing overseas, where as others here are planning their vacations to Vegas and Hawaii to forget about everything.

Who are the "lazy sunbathers" symbolizing. These "sun-hoggers" must be a metaphor for some group of people he met in his life.

I was looking at a morrissey site (http://www.compsoc.man.ac.uk/~moz/) and below this song it writes: "Apparently in the first days after Germany invaded Poland, it was hot beautiful weather in Berlin (and I believe a holiday as well), and crowds of people went to the Wahnsee (a big lake) to sunbathe, both in a sort of state of denial, and knowing this would be the last pleasurable moment before war broke out..."

George Formby accused contemporary performers of being "lazy sunbathers" for not being more active in the war effort. It probably also refers to the days after Germany invaded Poland, where crowds of Berlin sunbathers went to the Wahnsee lake, in a state of denial about the forthcoming war.

I found this song hilarous upon first listen. I think it can apply to any situation where people completely ignore the problems around them. I also hate sunbathing and everything surrounding it and I am quite tempted to play it next time my sisters go off for an sunbathe.

Well it sums up certain people as well as being a direct reference to WW2 Berlin situation.

People are becoming less concerned with real issues and only care about superficial things. He continues to mention that TV is turning people into idiots (X factor etc...) as they treat people like they're stupid so people are becoming stupid.

So some people don't even notice when important events happen (wars etc..), they just flock to the beach, copy of The Sun under their arm, and dribble to X factor in the evening.

the \'lazy sunbathers\' in question are sheltered people who choose to isolate themselves from tragedies they don\'t have to deal with, and recklessly consume in a way that possibly exacerbates those tragedies for the rest of the world (\'sun burning to the earth\'s core, but its not enough they want more\').\n\nYes this could be about ww2 specifically but I think it could really apply to any issue/crisis at any time in history. \n\n1700s-French Revolution: the French elite and \'let them eat cake\' types are the lazy sunbathers here\n\n1860s-American Civil War: those of the privileged white americans who were not abolitionists and did not take any concern in the war or who had slaves are the lazy sunbathers here\n\n1940s-ww2: the Hitler sympathizers (who conveniently werent of any of the groups Hitler targeted) were gaining extraneous wealth from chumming around with nazis while of course millions were dying and they had their hands in it indirectly--they were the lazy sunbathers \n\n1970s/80s--AIDS Epidemic: the heterosexuals who pinned aids as a \'gay people problem/white people who pinned it as a \'black people problem\' leading to more fervent and violent discrimination against those groups were the lazy sunbathers\n\n2022-Russia vs. Ukraine: the Russian elite are the lazy sunbathers
