Sing Your Life Lyrics
Sing your life
Any fool can think of words that rhyme
Many others do
Why don't you ?
Do you want to ?
Oh...
Sing your life
Walk right up to the microphone
And name
All the things you love
All the things that you loathe
Oh, sing your life
The things that you love
And the things you loathe
Oh, sing your life
Oh, sing your life
La, la-la, la-la, sing your life
La, la-la, la-la, sing your life
Others sang your life
But now is a chance to shine
And have the pleasure of
Saying what you mean
Have the pleasure of
Meaning what you sing
Oh, make no mistake my friend
All of this will end
So sing it now (sing your life)
All the things you love (sing your life)
All the things you loathe
Oh, sing your life
The things that you love
And the things you loathe (sing your life)
Oh, sing oh...
Oh, sing oh...
La, la-la, la-la, sing your life
La, la-la, la-la, sing your life
Don't leave it all unsaid
Somewhere in the wasteland of your head, oh
Head, oh, head, oh, head, oh
And make no mistake, my friend
Your pointless life will end
But before you go
Can you look at the truth ?
You have a lovely singing voice
A lovely singing voice
And all of those
Who sing on-key
They stole the notion
From you and me
So, sing your life (sing your life)
Sing your life (sing your life)
Oh, sing your oh...
Oh, sing your
Sing your life
Sing your life
Sing your life
Oh, sing your oh...
(Sing your life)

I think it's because he finds too many artists are singing about such generic things in life, but Moz likes it his way, about his place in society and his unique way of dealing with things.
oops, I didn't mean to vote you up, I meant to disagree. Sorry.

Quite simply, its morrissey's mission statement.
This is the song that got me hooked on Morrissey and the Smiths...its a fabulous song...just the whole concept of someone saying to another...life is pointless, who cares if you can't sing, just grab a microphone and sing. I have to say though...the BEST version of this song is the KROQ single version....blows you away...I don't care much for the album version.
I get an intense feeling EVERYTIME I listen to this song it has powerful words and makes you think of things you take for granted.
Am I the only one who believes that this is Morrissey taking a sarcastic shot at those people at karaoke bars who take themselves far too seriously when it comes to selecting and singing a song?
i am POSITIVE morrissey would never direct a song with such grandeur to people at karaoke bars, this reflects on self-expression and those who are awkward at doing so, he's giving it all a musica accent by mentioning "walk up to the microphone" and "sing on-key"... that is all.
I absolutely love this song, especially:
And make no mistake, my friend Your pointless life will end- But before you go, Can you look at the truth ? You have a lovely singing voice A lovely singing voice ! And all of those Who sing on-key They stole the notion From you and me!
My interpretation: Life is short, and you ought to sing if you want to. :)
I AGREE WITH saucerfulofsproule
