Connection Lyrics
Riding on any wave
There is the luck you crave
They don't believe it now
They just think it's stupid
So got anything
Anyone could have done
Who would've cared at all not you
Another heart has made the trade
Forget it forget it forget it
I don't understand how a heart is a spade
But somehow the vital connection is made
Riding on anything
Anything's good enough
Who would've thought it of someone like you
Just as they brought me round
Now that they brought you down
Roundabout and roundabout
Who wants a life anyway
Another heart has made the grade
Forget it forget it forget it
I don't understand how the last card is played
But somehow the vital connection is made.
There is the luck you crave
They don't believe it now
They just think it's stupid
So got anything
Anyone could have done
Who would've cared at all not you
Forget it forget it forget it
I don't understand how a heart is a spade
But somehow the vital connection is made
Anything's good enough
Who would've thought it of someone like you
Just as they brought me round
Now that they brought you down
Roundabout and roundabout
Who wants a life anyway
Forget it forget it forget it
I don't understand how the last card is played
But somehow the vital connection is made.

I think this song was somehow supposed to reflect Justine's relationship with Suede's Brett Anderson and her thoughts on his lyrics. After she started seeing Damon Albarn from Blur, she still remained within the band for several months and this - for obvious reasons- upset Suede and especially her ex (Anderson). In retaliation to the situation he wrote songs with lyrics directing to his heartbreak: Pantomime Horse, My Insatiable One etc.
So after Justine left and founded Elastica she wrote about her thoughts on some of Anderson's lyrics and how she felt that he had been cashing in on his - eventual - fame. ( which, here, is conveyed in Connection).
or the story went something like that...
I see the link with how this song could clearly be about a love connection, but to me its more about the sell out of being a music artist and how far people are willing to go and the passion some people have to make music in order to become famous.
'Another heart has made the trade' Insead of creating music for pasison and creativity there trading their true love of music in order to make contempory, money making stuff.
Although now reading it through again, it dosen't just have to be about getting famous through music, maybe the person shes talking about is an attention seeker willing to 'ride on any wave' to gain attention and fame.
I think it's a great song, very catchy and Elastica were underrated.
catchy
as best as I can figure this song is about how love is a gamble.
A complete rip-off of Wire's "Three girl rumba"
This song is obviously about poker. It is from the perspective of someone who is gambling and playing every hand they get dealt. They often get all-in in very unfavourable positions, but are optimistic about hitting miracle cards to win.
"I don't understand how a heart is a spade, but somehow a vital connection is made"
They were hoping for a backdoor flush, but ended up turning a straight draw.
Strip poker and how you don't mind losing if you are playing with someone you want
my favorite !!
I didn't know it was a rip off from Wire's "Three girl rumba" ?
