Mad Season Lyrics

I feel stupid - but I know it won't last for long
I've been guessing - I coulda been guessin' wrong
You don't know me now
I kinda thought that you should somehow
Does that whole mad season got ya down

I feel stupid but it's something that comes and goes
I've been changin' - think it's funny how now one knows
We don't talk about - the little things that we do without
When that whole mad season comes around

So why ya gotta stand there
Looking like the answer now
It seems to me - you'd come around
I need you now
Do you think you can cope
You figured me out - I'm lost and I'm hopeless
Bleeding and broken - though I've never spoken
I come undone - in this mad season

I feel stupid - but I think I been catchin' on
I feel ugly - but I know I still turn you on
You seem colder now, torn apart, angry, turned around
Will that whole mad season knock you down

So are you gonna stand there
Are you gonna help me out
You need to be together now - I need you now
Do you think you can cope
You figured me out - I'm lost and I'm hopeless
Bleeding and broken - though I've never spoken
I come undone - in this mad season

Now I'm cryin' - isn't that what you want
I'm tryin' to live my life on my own
But I won't
At times - I do believe I am strong
So someone tell me why, why, why
Do I, I, I feel stupid
And I came undone
And I came undone

I need you now
Do you think you can cope
You figured me out - I'm lost and I'm hopeless
Bleeding and broken - though I've never spoken

I need you now
Do you think you can cope
You figured me out - I'm a child and I'm hopeless
Bleeding and broken - though I've never spoken
I come undone - in this mad season

In this mad season
There's been a mad season
Been a mad season

i described this song to my friend as traipsing the line between sanity and reality - falling apart and no one noticing. the "mad season" is crazyness.
and yes, it's an awesome song - the entire cd kicks some serious ass.

Ok guys, here is my take on this song. I t sounds sorta like a crush/unrequited love sort of song to me. Here is why:

I feel stupid - but I know it won't last for long I've been guessing - I coulda been guessin' wrong

I feel stupid...who has never been made to feel stupid by a member of the opposite sex? I know I have many times. You can feel stupid just for liking someone in, you know, that way. I know it won't last for long...Crushes never do. Or the pain of rejection even fades in time.

I've been changin' - think it's funny how now one knows We don't talk about - the little things that we do without

I've been changin'...He has tried to change certain things about himself to make this girl like him, but she hasn't noticed, or his changes haven't had the desired effects. Saying "No one's noticed" is a tactic I often use to people when I am obviously meaning the person I am talking to. Sort of a sarcasm thing. We don't talk about, the little things that we do without...What little things do most single people go without? The soft touch of the one you love, holding hands...you know. That sort of thing. He doesn't talk about it because, well, I don't know in this instance, but I know that I have a hard time talking about things of a romantic nature even with my closest friends, beacause I don't want anyone to know just how lonely I know this world can be. So why you gotta satnd there, looking like the answer now... I know this all too well. You can see this person that you want to be with more than anything everyday in noormal life, and you know that he/she holds the solution to every problem you can see through on the horizon, though your vision has been reduced by a love-induced case of tunnel vision. But you know that the personal problems, the loneliness can all be solved by the will of this person, but they just choose to "stand there looking like the answer". You figured me out...Apparently she knows of his feelings, but has chosen to ignore them, which only makes the situation that much more painful. I think you get what I am trying to say, So I will stop breaking this song down line by line and let you get on with reading other comments, but that is my take on this song. I hope you can see what I am saying.

This song means a lot to me. It's about living in a world that doesn't stop pushing you around and weighing stress on your shoulders, and you begin to think that you're hopeless during these "mad seasons". It got me through my first week of college, so I'd give it five stars. ;)

Rob Thomas said the inspiration for this song was fights and disagreements amongst the band members but it has a deeper meaning for me. I think its about working through a period of depression and feeling like there is no one who can understand what it feels like to be this low. He simply needs someone to comfort him yet everyone acts like that's far too much too ask. It's just a mad season ...also, this song reminds me a lot of PMS

This song is just all about loving a girl so much, and either losing her or having your love be unreciprocated. It just gives all the pain of that feeling and then he says that "its been a mad season". That the whole world he lives in is all a bit crazy at the moment but that it will all get better. It totally got me through a bout of unreciprocated love. I love this song.

I heard on the radio something about this being about the first year of his marriage....dunno if it's true

I saw him on VH1 and he said it doesn't have anything to do with his marriage. He thought that idea was pretty funny. I think this song is about "madness". He has another song "Unwell", which is about the same subject. There are lots of people whose emotional state is dependent on the season of the year. When it is dark and gloomy in the winter, there are lots of suicides. I think he is talking about that time when he says "I feel stupid" and "I feel ugly". He feels lost and hopeless. I don't think the feelings have anything to do with his relationship with her. She seems to be sticking by him, although he worries that the mad season will knock her down, too. He knows it won't last for long because the season is going to change and life will be good again. Each time the mad season comes, he "comes undone".

I can associate this song with my college life. It seems that I'm fine in between semesters, but when the semester starts again and things get crazy, then my "mad season" comes around, and I'm looking for a way out. I can also associate this song with my relationship with my mother. Specifically the line, "Now I'm crying, isn't that what you want" sets in deep. I won't go into detail about my parental relationships, but my mother seems to pride herself in playing head games with me and being a lazy person.
