Girl Like That Lyrics
You think this life would make me bolder
But I'm running scared is all
I hang on everything about you
You think I'd settle down cuz I'm older
But I roll with the changes is all
I'm same old trailer trash in new shoes
She gets sad when there's nothing going on
She says it makes her feel damn worthless
(chorus 1)
Well you got to think with a girl like that
Any love at all, is better than nothing
It's better than nothing
I put my hands around your shoulder
You're saying you're scared is all
I think I know too much about you
You think this life would make me colder
I'd give in to the alcohol
I put my loving arms around you, child
You knew damn well there was nothing going on
Is that what makes you feel damn worthless
(chorus 2)
Well you got to think with a girl like that
Any love is better than nothing
It's better than nothing
You got to think, with a girl like that
Any love at all, is better than nothing
It's better than nothing
Yeah she drags you down and she pulls you up
She pulls you up
Says that she's sorry now but it's not enough
To pull you up
She's sorry
I wake up quick just like I want to
Yeah but I stay out much too late
You think this life can get a bit unkind but she stays
Down till the worth is gone
And pulls you up, she pulls you up,
She pulls you up and over, over

i always thought this was about an insecure couple. the guy thinks the girl is out of his league and the girl doesnt think highly of herself. they both seem afraid of the rel'p.
This is a good song. I can't believe that no one commented on it!
great song. it's driving and exciting.. one of those ones that you really love to sing along with. :)
is he saying the girl deserves whatever love he gives her or that even just a lil love from a "girl like that" is better than no love at all????
its saying he loves her with all he can offer, but she wants more and won't accept the fact that he loves her with what he can.
I love this song, from the first time I heard it. Still, some lines are not easy to understand to me. I don't know either if "it's better than nothing" is talking from his point of view, or the girl's itself.
I love the lines: "I wake up quick just like I want to Yeah but I stay out much too late..."
it seems to me that this song is about a relationship he's in that he's giving his all, loving her with all he can, and she's not ready to commit, but he's saying having what he can of her is "better than nothing" because he sees something special in her, ie, a girl "like that".. a girl he's not good enough for so whatever she gives him is worth it..
I think you're all right, but I wanna add something. This line here:
"I put my hands around your shoulder You're saying you're scared is all I think I know too much about you..."
I think what it is is she's saying that she's just scared, and it might imply that she does this often with different emotions, and he's saying that he knows too much about her in the sense that he knows something's wrong but she won't say. Then it seems he figures out what was bugging her with the dragging down and pulling up, because:
"Yeah she drags you down and she pulls you up She pulls you up Says that she's sorry now but it's not enough To pull you up She's sorry..."
It seems she must've dumped him or something, and she says she's sorry, but it isn't enough to make it better. This line really solidifies that idea:
"And pulls you up, she pulls you up, She pulls you up and over, over..."
The "over" thing means one of two things. Either she pulls him over a "hill" of sorts, where she pulls him back up and they make it through, or it literally means that they're relationship is over. I like to think of it in the sense of the latter.
That whole thing might be a little too analytical, but if I think of the song like that, then it fits ME more, which I like to do with songs a lot, as I'm sure we all do.
good job harusame that all made sense! the girl in this is so like me..... to scared to commit coz she might get hurt.... and
"She gets sad when there's nothing going on She says it makes her feel damn worthless"
that is me! love this MBT song great like all of there "yourself or someone like you songs" best album ,best band, bestest!
This song sounds like it's about a relationship that's not really a relationship. They're in a relationship he wants to keep casual ("You'd think I'd settle down 'cause I'm older/I just roll with the change, is all") and she wants more of a commitment out of him ("You knew damn well there was nothing going on/Is that what makes you feel damn worthless"). He cares about her, but he doesn't want to commit to her for anything more than what they've got ("it's better than nothing").
He thinks he's already gotten a little too close for his own comfort ("I think I know too much about you"), but he still likes to hook up with her ("I give into the alcohol/I put my loving arms around you"; he's most affectionate when he's intoxicated.)
In the end, though, she only stays until she stops seeing any value in the relationship ("Says she's sorry now, but it's not enough"; "You think this life can get a bit unkind but she stays/Down till the worth is gone") -- he's obviously not looking to stay with her, and from the sound of it he kind of looks down on her ("a girl like that").
Woahhhh reading this makes it make quite a bit more sense! I loved the song anyway but a few lines were like "hmmm" but reading your ideas on the song have put it in a slightly different light!
