I LOVE THIS SONG !!!!! the piano part it's so pretty I think this is about a forbidden relationship but since it has a pretty broad meaning you can relate it to a lot of things like dating someone older,younger, same sex et cetera

As hot as the idea of Chan the lesbian is, I assumed this song is about miscegenation.

I thought I was the only one who assumed this song was about her love affair with a girl in a small, Southern town.

Well, as a married white woman involved in an online romance with a black woman - who she is about to meet on vacation - I can tell you exactly what this song means. smile

I think It's also about a desire that puts in question your identity, your sense of self...a desire that makes some kind of change happen inside yourself

Although this may or may not be unrelated, sometime around the making of this album Chan got an abortion (the subject of Nude as the News). So, I always assumed that was what, at least partially, this song was about. Also possibly about premarital sex/relationships in general.
