Old Lyrics
I am the man that defends all things profane
6000 years is the time that I shall reign
And with a grin drank the blood of holy swine
Impurity made the blood turn into wine
Old man, dead hand
If only in their insanity
The lie feeds off their greed
Jesus wept
I am the pain that feeds off your weakness
A sickening born of hate not of the blessed
And with that time I winl crush all things they prey
Destroying all from the known to the arcane
Old man, dead hand
If only in their insanity
The lie feeds off their greed
Jesus wept
Bun my eyes and try to blind me
Bury me so they won't find me
Try to suck my power empty
Got no crown of thorns on me
So burn my eyes and try to blind
Bury me so they won't find
Try to suck my power dry
You got no crown of thorns on me
Old man, dead hand
If only in their insanity
The lie feeds off their greed
Jesus wept
6000 years is the time that I shall reign
And with a grin drank the blood of holy swine
Impurity made the blood turn into wine
If only in their insanity
The lie feeds off their greed
Jesus wept
A sickening born of hate not of the blessed
And with that time I winl crush all things they prey
Destroying all from the known to the arcane
If only in their insanity
The lie feeds off their greed
Jesus wept
Bury me so they won't find me
Try to suck my power empty
Got no crown of thorns on me
Bury me so they won't find
Try to suck my power dry
You got no crown of thorns on me
If only in their insanity
The lie feeds off their greed
Jesus wept

The Old Man is the Christian church. Not the devil. Two things give the metaphor away. First, 6000 years is a direct reference to the Young Earth theory, a movement recently pushed by many Evangelical churches. Second, Robb constantly expresses in his lyrics a hate for modern leaders, whether they are the government or the church. Look at the song Death Church and Blood of the Zodiac for the church, and a whole ton of other songs for the government.
I've never heard one song from Machine Head that attacks God or faith, only people and usually leaders.
This song is about corruption, racism, and religious hypocrisy. It talks about how these issues are prevalent in our world, and how the church has failed in its duty to address them. It's strengthened by suggesting that "If Jesus came down, He'd be shot." Even the embodiment of goodness and purity would not be spared from the violence and hatred of the new world. It's telling us to be defiant against oppressive forces, urging us to confront and challenge the prevailing systems of power and the destructive behaviors that perpetuate inequality and suffering.
It's about Satan (Old man is another name for the devil).
Not sure about meaning yet but the guitar in this song is brutally awesome. I'd love to hear it live.
So I guess this is about Satan spreading misery throughout the world. According to some biblical traditions, the human race will exist for 6000 years under the rule of Satan, followed by 1000 years of bliss under the rule of God and Jesus.
Fucking AWESOME!!
what are the first spoken lines??
is it correct?
1994 Corruption, racism, hate The church has failed Jesus came down And been shocked
The correct line are:
The correct line are:
If Jesus came down He'd be shot
If Jesus came down He'd be shot
1994 Corruption, racism, hate. The church has failed. If Jesus came down, he'd be shot.
1994 Corruption, racism, hate. The church has failed. If Jesus came down, he'd be shot.
I love listening to the chorus at the end when I'm pissed.
I think it's "he'd be shocked" rather than "and been shocked".
A lot of people get the spoken intro wrong. The correct lyrics are:
1994 Corruption, racist, hate The church has failed If Jesus came down he'd be shot

In this video you can clearly see Robb making a gun gesture with his hands.
