This is such a wonderful song... I think the lyrics kinda say it for the song, but I always felt like it was a way of saying sorry for everything he screwed up in the past, because he didn't know he was hurting the person ( from the lyrics I gather an old girlfriend or love, somethin like that) and he didn't realize how much he loved her until she was gone. it's a beautiful song, incredibly sad, but absolutely beautiful.
Side note - THIS BAND IS STILL AROUND. PLEASE support them all you can!!! If you like their music, go out and buy their CDs, they need all the help they can get. They really are a great bunch of guys, so if you can help them out please do!

So, I try my hardest to post wht I think a song means, but now I find someone who has already done a good job of it, thanks for keeping the true intent of this site alive. I totally agree with your interpretation of the song.
