Tiger In My Tank Lyrics
i bought some rock star ashes,
from the back of rolling stone
i guess he wouldn't mind it,
they couldn't sell his soul
the tiger in my tank, is going to go extinct
and im not feelin so good myself,
i think im on the brink
of disaster
i had a dream last night
the tv and the phone
grew some legs and took a walk
and left me all alone
the tiger in my tank, is going to go extinct
and im not feelin so good myself,
i think im on the brink
of disaster
when i grow up ill be
an angry little whore,
ill give you all the finger
i'll sell you all what for
from the back of rolling stone
i guess he wouldn't mind it,
they couldn't sell his soul
and im not feelin so good myself,
i think im on the brink
of disaster
the tv and the phone
grew some legs and took a walk
and left me all alone
and im not feelin so good myself,
i think im on the brink
of disaster
an angry little whore,
ill give you all the finger
i'll sell you all what for

I dodn't know 'tiger in my tank' was an advertising jingle!
I always thought it was about suppresed rage, like a tiger trapped in a tank, and this verse:
i had a dream last night the tv and the phone grew some legs and took a walk and left me all alone
might be about how people walk out on him, and even the TV and the phone, his last connection to other people, might walk out on him too. Maybe the reason he brought a rockstars ashes is for company, like he's got a connection to someone famous who everyone likes.
this is an antiadvertising jingle. the chorus refers to the old esso slogan i think, its very catchy like an advert
hmm... but I don't find it too easy to link the verses to advertising though- especially not the second. At least the first or third have references to buying and selling.
Though that one line can't have been an accident (can it?)
This song is one of my favorites as it has the bouncy happy music set to the inverted morbid and depressing lyrics. The call and response in verse three is also very entertaining. The inversion reminds me of Vanity Fair by Mr. Bungle or The AIDS Song be Ween.
He has an isolated life style. He doesn't make a physical contact with people, feels like a powerful tiger when he is at home(in his tank). He watches tv, listenes rock music(maybe he dreams his self as a rock star) and talks with friends at phone. He knows this kind of life style isn't good and sustainable, and this tiger will die and extinct.
