Nobody Knows You When You're Down And Out Lyrics

Once I lived the life of a millionaire,
Spent all my money, I just did not care.
Took all my friends out for a good time,
Bought bootleg whiskey, champagne and wine.

Then I began to fall so low,
Lost all my good friends, I did not have nowhere to go.
I get my hands on a dollar again,
I'm gonna hang on to it till that eagle grins.

'Cause no, no, nobody knows you
When you're down and out.
In your pocket, not one penny,
And as for friends, you don't have any.

When you finally get back up on your feet again,
Everybody wants to be your old long-lost friend.
Said it's mighty strange, without a doubt,
Nobody knows you when you're down and out.

When you finally get back upon your feet again,
Everybody wants to be your good old long-lost friend.
Said it's mighty strange,
Nobody knows you,
Nobody knows you,
Nobody knows you when you're down and out.

OH MY DEAR LORD! Nobody has commented on such a fine piece of music that displays what Clapton plays and sings best. THE BLUES! What a performance on the unplugged album. This song kind of sounds like it could be from a Jack Daniels commercial. The backup singers really give the chorus more support. I play this song all the time on my guitar. It's great finger picking. Anyways on with the meaning. I think it's about how some people who you think are your friends are just using you for something you have and they don't.

The whole album is about Patti Boyd ( George Harrison's wife. But this song stands out among the rest as being slightly different. Superb cry from the heart

to the comment above this song isnt about pattie boyd, he sang this before he met her with derek and the dominoes. This is truly an amazing song about being extremely rich spending it all living the life and losing it all.
