If you stop and think about it, this song is a warning of what happens when you're addicted. If you look at the lyrics, he is saying that once you're hooked, you can't do anything without cocaine. Who would want to be so dependent on anything that they can't function without it?

If you wanna hang out you've got to take her out; cocaine. -He is saying that if you just want to hang out with people, you need cocaine (A lot of addicts say that the drug they are presently addicted to is the "love of their life" so it makes sense that he would personify coke as a woman.) I know that heroine was his "drug of choice", but he was clearly addicted to coke when he adapted this song.

This song is tongue-in-cheek anti-drug. Anyone who's done it regularly knows that it's hard to have fun, deal with stress, etc, without it... "if you wanna hang out, you gotta take her out." He's basically saying it becomes an answer to everything.

"Don't forget this fact, you can't get it back" -- you can't get your life back once you've snorted it up.

And for the record, for anyone who doesn't know, "she" isn't a woman in particular... "she" is a street references to coke. Heroin is boy, coke is girl.

And for Philadelphia Eagles, I'm glad you quit, and please don't start back up again. Quitting coke is hard as hell and it's impressive that you've maintained sobriety, but unfortunately depression is definitely a side effect of quitting. It deals with the dopamine receptors that have been fucked due to the coke. After a time period, eventually, you WILL start receiving pleasure from day-to-day things,etc. IT WILL COME BACK.

Don't encourage anyone try it. Some people can handle doing it once or twice... some people can't. NOBODY needs to play that russian roulette of addiction.

The song wasn't even written by Clapton - it's a JJ Cale song from the "Naturally" album. So it comes down to whether Clapton recorded the song because he thought it was pro- or anti-drugs.

Unlike all other lyrics and drugs, this drug is about songs.

heh you all go blow your brains with cocaine. yes clapton was abusing drugs for some time, no doubt, that is what Cream's biggest white room was about. But, however, this song is infact anti-drug, believe it or not, it's the truth.

See, i kind of think it's anti-drug. He keeps referring to cocaine as excapism from the daily pressures, big and small, in life. But then to say "she don't lie" is meaning that you can't excape the truth. You can't excape the reality of your problems. My ex did quite a lot of it, and at the end, he fit this song perfectly. Every little thing, the answer was COCAINE. Too bad it wasn't.

i tried drugs and ended up depressed and had to go on to medication some people can handle them some cant i certainly couldnt looking back now i think the best high is when you achieve something which takes hard work or do something you love doing those highs beat any form of drug

I've heard that this song can also be an allusion a bad relationship, but the girl is as adicting as cocaine, possibly a reference to good sex. The speaker could be in denile "She don't lie", and he is escaping depresion thru the good sex he is getting from this woman. Just something I've heard and thought I'd throw out there.

I strongly beleive that the line "she dont lie" is saying that the cocaine doesnt lie. It is a comparison between cocaine and women in that the high you get from cocaine is truthful and pure. Whereas when with a woman or being in love with a woman theres a possibility she is just lying to you, and the high you get from that is false.

This is a great song, the JJ Cale version is a million times better though.
