Stupid Lullabies Lyrics
Cigarette ashes
And tickets to free dances
And a buck bottle of wine
Under a minute of my time
I'll give you all that I can, son... It may be less than I have, son
Don't break the ties that border us, son. Don't waste my time
You're no son of mine
I've got so many errands to run, son
Fraternize with poker buddies and their cash, son
I spent the better part of my life singing you stupid lullabies
And handcuffed tight behind my back under your mother's watchful eye
God rest her soul
And God bless a wasted life
And tickets to free dances
And a buck bottle of wine
Under a minute of my time
I'll give you all that I can, son... It may be less than I have, son
Don't break the ties that border us, son. Don't waste my time
You're no son of mine
Fraternize with poker buddies and their cash, son
I spent the better part of my life singing you stupid lullabies
And handcuffed tight behind my back under your mother's watchful eye
God rest her soul
And God bless a wasted life

These two comments from decades ago are the only discourse I’ve been able to find on the lyrics of this song. I heard it in the Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX video game as a kid but never understood the words. Pretty heavy stuff.
It seems like the family was held together by the mother. Mom loved son, and dad loved mom. When she died the father slipped into depression and despair, leaving his son out to dry. Even to the point of disowning him. It sounds like, from the father’s perspective, the son did something to “break the ties.” But based on his coldness in the second verse, perhaps the father gave up too easily, or was even waiting for any excuse to leave him behind.
That’s how I read it at least. Could be wrong. Great song.
This song kicks arse
This sounds like another estranged-father-and-son tune from the Utters. Kinda like a precursor to "Bitter Old Son" by (Utters ofshoot)The Filthy Thieving Bastards. I'm guessing Corey Koski had some dad problems. Great song!
This song makes me so sad. What the dads saying is just so horribly insulting. I can't imagine what that must feel like, having a dad that feels he wasted his life because of you.
