Mis-Shapes Lyrics
Mis-shapes, mistakes, misfits
Raised on a diet of broken biscuits
Oh, we don't look the same as you
We don't do the things you do
But we live around here too, oh really
Mis-shapes, mistakes, misfits
We'd like to go to town but we can't risk it, oh
'Coz they just want to keep us out
You could end up with a smash in the mouth
Just for standing out, oh really
Brothers and sisters can't you see
The future is owned by you and me
There won't be fighting in the street
They think they got us beat
But revenge is going to be so sweet
We're making a move
We're making it now
We're coming out of the sidelines
Just put your hands up, it's a raid yeah
We want your homes
We want your lives
We want the things you won't allow us
We won 't use guns
We won't use bombs
We'll use the one thing we've got more of
That's our mind
Check your lucky numbers
That much money could drag you under, oh
What's the point of being rich
if you can't think of what to do with it?
'Coz you're so bleeding thick
Oh, we weren't supposed to be
We learnt to much at school and now we can help but see
That the future you've got mapped out
Is nothing much to shout about
We're making a move
We're making it now
We're coming out of the sidelines
Just put your hands up, it's a raid yeah
We want your homes
We want your lives
We want the things you won't allow us
We won't use guns
We won't use bombs
We'll use the one thing we've got more of
That's our mind
And that's our minds, yeah
Raised on a diet of broken biscuits

No, its about Townies. If you want to understand this song you need to go to Sheffield City Centre on a friday or saturday night. West Street or down the high street/Fargate.
Its not about class, or specifically about geeks etc, its about the Lads who go out in shiny shoes and shirts on Saturday night and the girls who wear little dresses and make-up who are their female equivalent. Its these people in gangs who scare everyone else into either not going out, or getting cabs down to the Leadmill late on. They may well have well paid jobs, but they aspire to nothing more than a wealth of consumer durables.
And look down on anyone who threatens them by being different.
The Intellectual Revolution. My dream. Though, if it came, I'd be so disappointed. Ever seen that episode of the Simpsons with Stephen Hawkins?
I swear that during the chorus the James Bond theme is played in the background. Have a listen.
Definitely not about a class struggle. The differences sung about are cultural or to be more precise intellectual. If this were a class related song, it would be analogous of minority menshevism versus populist or popular bolshevism which stem from the same class strata. It's simply an affirmation of the working class geek's desire to revolt against the usual principles of isolationism and alienation and reclaim what he feel sis rightfully his. Freedom of expression and to pursue happiness. To think this is class related is a fucking reach.
I think that the person in the video that puts a sticker onto Jarvis' back, is what Jarvis would be like if he was richer, and it's the same with all the "mistakes" they have their alternate characters that they would have been had they been richer
this is an excelent song, fits in with what its like to live in towns when u dress 'alternatively' in yr 11 there were 2 gangs the 'grebs' and the 'roodies' the 'roodies' being the ppl who were like pretty hard, but were compleatly senceless, wondered around creating trouble with mindless vandalisum and beating ppl up. the 'grebs' on the other had had quite a few intalectuals in, we didnt go round beating ppl up, cus most of us would get our heads kicked in if we tryed. but in 10 years time we are all going to be in decent jobs and they are going to be on the doll, in prison or a dustbinman (no offence to dustbinmen)
Clearly this song is about the "war" between the working class and the white collar and upper classes. The upper classes look down on the lower and view them as "mistakes" utterly worthless to society. When, in fact, many of those raised in the lower classes have educated themselves rather than be dragged down. Eventually, they'll take the place of the upper class people who never felt a need to really push themselves and be creative because they thought they'd always have money.
Yay calss struggles!!!
allow me to reiterate, yay CLASS struggles
I love the part of the video in the toilets, and on the wall, there is a list of "Pulp" "Wet wet wet" crossed out by the fans of the other band.
Hee hee!
Jarvis really does despise Wet Wet Wet, doesn't he?
This was our anthem when it came out. We were 17 and we were big time geeks.
For the first time in forever, we were actually cool!
