Prime Time Deliverance

I love this song, I wish MGB would've played it live. His lyrics paint a perfect picture about a girl committing suicide. It gives me goose bumps everytime.

I thing this song has something to do with T.V., and how we blow off our friends and family just to watch a black box. In the song, the mother sits down to watch some mind-numbing T.V. show instead of spending time with her daughter, who eventually committs suicide. REALLY great song.

this song is so amazing, i agree with blender on how it's based on tv's corruption of mind and the potential threat that can ensue because of it, in this case, a daughters (telephone)prostitution, drug uses, and eventual suicide

I think this song refer to a girl doing a drug overdose. Drug is her "Prime time Deliverance" that will ultimately kill her. I refer to those lyrics:

"A one way trip Who ever thought she'd miss The ins and outs of oxygen The darkest side of the biggest God damn ride You've ever been on"

But this is only my opinion

then at the end of the song he says "And she says the best thing you can do Is hang around for a while"

so this girl hangs her self then he says "she says the best thing you can do is hang around for a while"...very smart...disturbing...but smart

Prime Time Deliverance contains multiple stories. the overlying theme is television, and how it blends seamlessly fact and fiction. news reports blend into soap operas blend into game shows blend into sitcoms.

the girl committing suicide heavily references Good's short story "How Debbie Parks drowned in cherry Jell-O". the story deals with the trivialness of life and how pointless death can be. this basically fills the "fiction" part of Prime Time Deliverance. it adds a lot of drama and emotion to the song, while the "fact" parts about the C.I.A. and criminal investigations make the song seem more grounded in reality.

i have very little doubt about the above statements because they have been backed up by evidence in Good's book ("At Last There Is Nothing Left To Say") and in interviews with Good. the following is my own speculation.

Prime Time Deliverance doesn't really preach about the evils of television, but merely portrays some aspects of it in a vivid and realistic manner. the drama with the drugs and death aren't a result of TV, merely what's on TV.

and yes, it's an amazing song. my favourite, i'd say.

The best part of the song is the "They found her in her room Wearing a pink bunny suit In sour cherry lipstick Hanging from the closet door Her eyes were wide maybe to despise Maybe just to look into your head light Morning glow" In my opinion. The way Matt sings these ingenious lyrics with such passion i think has made me cry once before. So powerful...

Listening to this song makes me never want to do anything bad ever again...it's touching...

I always turn this one way up in the car. Gives me the chills. Every time.
