Everything Is Automatic Lyrics
Miss my head, miss my heart, miss my lungs
Be what you want to be
Watch what you want to see
Killed for fun
Down a hole, up a rope
Down some pills, up some hope
This karma machine only takes quarters
New age soldier, new age soldier
Everybody's all right
Everything is automatic
And everybody's all right
Everything is skin deep
Everybody's all right
And everything is automatic
Everybody's all right
And everything is skin deep, me
Say hey, say hey, say how ya doing
Say hey, say hey, say how ya doing
I miss my lazy boy
I miss my TV
I miss myself
Do you miss your lazy boy
Do you miss your TV
Do you miss yourself
Everybody's all right
Everything is automatic
Everybody's all right
Everything is skin deep
Everybody's all right
Everything is automatic
Everybody's' all right
Everything is skin deep, me
It's always what I wanted
It's always what I wanted
It's always what I
Killed for fun
It's fucking funny don't you think
One day you'll decompose
And you wake up and those
Those birds are singing
Those birds are singing
It's always what I wanted
It's always what I wanted
It's always what I
It's always what I
Everything is skin deep
Be what you want to be
Watch what you want to see
Killed for fun
Down a hole, up a rope
Down some pills, up some hope
This karma machine only takes quarters
New age soldier, new age soldier
Everything is automatic

This song is about modern living and how everything is handed to us so easily. Entertainment, work, etc. Electronics, inventions, replacing humans with robotics in factories.. traveling in our 300hp SUVs, eating away earth's resources. Humanity consumes the earth to make everything easier for us and our living here in North America. We're nearly all blind to the media and the latest trends. It's sick, really.
Matthew Good catches this perfectly in this song.
The last part of the song:
"One day you'll decompose And you wake up and those Those birds are singing "
Have you ever been through a hard time in your life and you're at the bottom of the barrel; and you just look at the sky and nature and the trees? You see the birds flying around and hear their songs.. and you just kind of realize the exact meaning he portrays here. Nature is a thing of beauty; and no matter how easy we have it we have to realize we're nothing compared to what we've built ourselves up to be.
He's saying that too many people are concerned with superficial things.
ahhh... no matter how much mgb i hear (and i've heard it all), this still remains one of my very favourites... second only to "going all the way" ("let's cut our losses" - the way he sings those couple of lines just kills me) or maybe "the fine art of falling apart" (it's just beautiful). I honestly feel that everyone should hear matt good sing at least once, but hopefully more because... wow. I don't know what it is, but that voice...
the emotion he puts into it, he sings like this shit is real and it is.
I think this song is trying to say that everything is at our fingertips, everything is fast-paced, everything is disposable. And then media comes in with its, "Everything's alright, kids. Nothing to worry about because we live in North America" attitude.

This came from poem he wrote. "Of all the things I’ve thrown down while on the road, I remember this piece of crap the most. I wrote it while consuming crepes in Quebec City a day after playing a show there (to all of ten people). It was one of those things that you write when you’ve come to the end of your rope and the only thing that’s keeping you going is the fact that you can’t remember how to stop. From it came Everything Is Automatic and Invasion 1. " he says about the poem.
It about life: disatisfaction, hopelessness, consequences...
This is an amazing song and it's the best MGB song ever.
Seems like it's just trying to say life is more important then our automatic stuff.
Also want to add that I love way he sings the lines
"Do you miss your lazy boy Do you miss your TV Do you miss yourself "
