Alabama Motel Room Lyrics

What is life if not a joke
one night she went out for smokes
and they took her apart like a ragdoll
in the back of a van
in an Alabama motel room
I have one of them tied up in the bathroom
I am down and out
but he will not get away with it again

When the night comes in
I hope I'm out of the rain
When the night comes in
she makes me whole again

I never sleep, I just watch TV
and the gun it lies next to me
whispering
in an Alabama motel room
I reflect on her sweet perfume
I am down and out
but they will not get away with it again

Say you love me
we will never get the chance again

"Say you love me we will never get the chance again"

Those two last lines are heart-wrenching, I wish the song ended there.

i love this song. the riff is great.

seems to me like it's about rape/murder and a follow up murder of the one[s] who did it to the girl.

I always tought the lyrics where: "When the night comes in she make IT HOME again"... either way is good though.

What i don't understand here is that he talk about "they took her apart like a ragdoll" like if he was watching, and then he seem to be the only guy doing it... kinda weird in my mind. I guess his manifesto "Porno Safari" (writen later) is the same fiction story but in different condition.

According to Matt Good, the song is loosely based on a kidnapping...but it's not easy to infer that from the lyrics. Killer tune though.

I've always thought this was the first song of musical story that he had. The first song is him having tracked down the men who murdered his girlfriend and the whole story ends at the end of his second album, Underdogs with "Change of Season".
