i think the song is amazing and i think it has to do with alot of people today how they're always trying to be depressed when there are real depressed people out there-won't you see you're not me, why would you want to be- but he is and he wants the happy people to be happy and stop acting depressed whe the title comes from-smile

I am a great taproot band, but i just noticed that if he is saying to be urself, which he is, then he is contradicting himself by saying "Trying to create that contagious smile", which he is refering to himself. so therefor he is saying that he wants people to pick up his contagious smile, which isnt being thereselfs.... HES A HYPACRIT! lol i still love u taproot!
The beginning of the chorus is one of the best lyrics in any song I've ever heard. Trying to create a contagious smile...Thoreau said that altering the state of the day was the greatest art...I guess Taproot's angrifying that statement into this song. :)
