Sweetest Decline Lyrics

She weaves secrets in her hair
The whispers are not hers to share.
Shes deep as a well.
Shes deep as a well.

Another day wastes away,
And my heart sinks with the sun.
A new days dawning,
And a new day has not yet begun.

So, anyway,
There I was,
Just sitting on your porch
Drinking in the sweetest decline.
The sweetest decline.
Sober mind

Whats the use in regrets
Theyre just things we havent done yet.
What are regrets?
Theyre just lessons we havent learned yet.

Another day draws away,
And my heart sinks with the sun.
Its like catching snow on my tongue.
Its like catching snow on my tongue.

So, anyway,
There I was,
Just sitting on your porch
Drink in the sweetest decline.
The sweetest decline.

Sober mind.

What are regrets?
What are regrets?

Theyre just lessons we havent learned yet.

Its like catching snow on your tongue.
You cant pin this butterfly down.

Cant pin this butterfly down.

So, so sweet. There's a definite sense of melancholy, in a celebration of being, falling, becoming. I love the line, "You can't pin this butterfly down." It's about being free and independent and autonomous.

"What are regrets? They're lessons we haven't learnt yet"--so true.

I just got it - it's about death, or more specifically watching somebody slowly dying, while graciously and peacefully accepting their fate. I've puzzled over this song for years and I only now understand after seeing my friend go through this. It's only taken me 20 years - amazed at Beth's insight at such a young age.
