This is an amazing song with really odd lyrics. I'm not sure what it's supposed to be about but I can picture IME getting really high and writing this song. "Leave your sex at the door... come in, There's ecstasy for all (...) The reason we can do these things is that our minds are clouded and we can't see straight"... I think this song has a sense of mystery and uncertainty to it as well, it's like he asking what is the meaning to my life: "Psychodramatic means to uncertain ends (...) Maybe I've played my part, but it's a player's art." Nonetheless, this is a classic song by IME at their peak.
Personally, I think this song very heavily deals with more intangible and slightly more spiritual aspects of life. The lyrics are somewhat cryptic, however, at the same time, they make sense on an intuitive level. To me this song deals with the things we don't own upto in life, conciously and to read this song that is steeped in imagry and metaphor you need to be able to read and decipher what is trying to be said.
I don't doubt that some type of drugs were involved in making this song, but there is a poinency to these lyrics.

Concur with the last comment. This is their best song. 15 years old and still fantastic. There is an acoustic version kicking around, which is quite good, too.
This song is one of those rare songs that truly taps into your soul and almost makes it seem like it's your own emotions that are unfolding as the song goes on. I can't pretend to say that I fully understand what the lyrics mean but I have to agree with the comments made above regarding the cryptic coding and almost dream-like imagery the song lets on. It feels like someone trying to remember things way in the past perhaps when they were very young and innocent, and them welcoming somebody else (an old friend perhaps) back into that world...
