Great song that I can't help but smile to whenever I hear it. It's very playful and obviously about flirting with a girl that is either unattainable or just playing hard to get.
I think this is the more upbeat version of Murder of One. I think they are both about trying to get through to people in bad relationships.
Like Pechorin I also thought of Murder of One when I really started to listen to this song. I think it's definately about Adam trying to get this girl out of a bad relationship like in MoO. Adam begs her to get out of the relationship: "Better leave when to stay is only nothing but being alone". But the girl rationalizes and hopes her boyfriend will change for the better: "It feels much better in the summer". She would rather stay in a bad relationship than be by herself: "But I sleep better when I'm not alone". And after all she thinks that she's "not getting any younger". The girl could actually easily be the same person as the girl in MoO. You'll find the nickname Kitten in both songs: "Well if it isn't warm where you're sittin' then Kitten come on in out of the cold" (Kid Things). "Curiosity, Kitten, doesn't have to mean you're on your own" (MoO). And it's not the only link between the two songs. I might be way off, it's getting late in Denmark :o) Anyway, great song and a great band.
This song is the bonus track at the end of This Desert Life, after the end of St. Robinson and a couple of minutes of silence. I like to think they put it there for people who listened to the album and ended up so depressed they couldn't get out of their chairs.
It's a bit of an antidote. You know... "Counting Crows may have made you despair about life, but there's still fun to be had. Now by god, get up out of that chair and go build a snowman!"
love this song so much. for me it's about everyone trying to grow up too damn fast and we never sit around and just enoy the "kid things". like new relationships and loves :)
