Johnny and Mary (Robert Palmer cover) Lyrics
Johnny's always running around, trying to find certainty.
He needs all the world to confirm, that he aint lonely
Mary counts walls, knows he tires easily
Johnny thinks the world would be right, if it would buy, truth from him.
Mary says he changes his mind, more than a woman.
But she made her bed, even when the chance was slim.
Johnny says he's willing to learn, when he decides, he's a fool.
Johnny say's he'll live any where, when he earns time to.
Mary combs her hair, says she should be use to it.
Mary always edges her bets, she never knows, what to think.
She says that he still acts, like he's being discovered.
Scared that he'll get caught, without a second thought
Johnny feels he's wasting his breath, trying to talk, sense to her
Mary says he's lacking a real, sense of proportion
So she combs her hair, knows he tires easily
Johnny's always running around, trying to find certainty.
He needs all the world to confirm, that he aint lonely
Mary counts walls, says she should be use to it.
He needs all the world to confirm, that he aint lonely
Mary says he changes his mind, more than a woman.
Johnny say's he'll live any where, when he earns time to.
She says that he still acts, like he's being discovered.
Mary says he's lacking a real, sense of proportion
So she combs her hair, knows he tires easily
He needs all the world to confirm, that he aint lonely

this song is about my parents!
i still don't really have a clear idea....but yeah it sounds like dissatisfied marriage. and the way that lots of marriages break down cause they feel they can't talk about it
nods I think it's any relationship, really... i mean, there's passion, but a lot of dissatisfaction, and the beginnings of apathy. I think this song's got a great beat and Brian's voice is marvelous. So catchy- I really love their covers.
repressed sexuality!!!!!!!!
Wicked song, it's about a crappy relationship and the two people unsure of what to do.
Robert Palmer cover, althought he didn't write the lyrics he probably had reasons for covering this song! =)
typical american relationship these days, i'd say.
To me, it seems like Johnny is a musician or an artist or a writier of sorts, but one whose ego makes him think he's better than he is.
"Mary counts walls, knows he tires easily" To me, I think that's about their sex life. She fakes everything but is never satisfied because he doesn't have the stamina.
Is Robery Palmer's original version of this song anywhere near as good as Placebo's cover version?
releaseme88, it's different. I can't say which one is "better" because they're appealing to different groups of listeners and more than likely mean something different to Robert Palmer and Placebo.
