Exodus Lyrics
my black backpack stuffed with broken dreams
twenty bucks should get me through the week
never said a word of discontentment
thought it a thousand times but now i'm leaving home
here in the shadows
i'm safe, i'm free
i've nowhere else to go
but i cannot stay where i don't belong
two months pass by and it's getting cold
i know i'm not lost...i'm just alone
but i won't cry, i won't give up, i can't go back now
waking up is knowing who you really are
here in the shadows
i'm safe, i'm free
i've nowhere else to go
but i cannot stay where i don't belong
in the shadows
i'm safe, i'm free
i've nowhere else to go
but i cannot stay here
oh, show me the shadow where true meaning lies
So much more dismay in empty eyes
twenty bucks should get me through the week
never said a word of discontentment
thought it a thousand times but now i'm leaving home
i'm safe, i'm free
i've nowhere else to go
but i cannot stay where i don't belong
i know i'm not lost...i'm just alone
but i won't cry, i won't give up, i can't go back now
waking up is knowing who you really are
i'm safe, i'm free
i've nowhere else to go
but i cannot stay where i don't belong
i'm safe, i'm free
i've nowhere else to go
but i cannot stay here
So much more dismay in empty eyes

i think this is about someone who has run away from whatever demons that are at home (or they think are there) i'm relating to it muchly cause my sis just "run away" or rather moved out aburplty but doesn't have the money to be on her own
I think the song is about, someone running away. "I'm safe,I'm free. I have no where else to go but, I cannot stay where I don't belong" there safe there but, they don't think they belong. They run away they have no where else to go but, they can't stay where they don't feel like they should be.
I love this song... it reminds me of a period of my life, but hey, doesnt every song somehow? So who's "Cailin" who knows all these lyrics?
i dunno who cailin is, but they deserve a big THANK YOU bc i cant find lyrics anywhere else on the net.. i love all of their songs :D i just went to see them at juanita's last night.. it was so f'n good.. aaaaaaah
curtsey man, i had to miss the juanita's show. i'm ever so jealous.
there's still quite a few songs that i don't know all the lyrics to, though. give unto me...oh, that just reminded me of a couple more i need to add.
: ) but i'm glad you appreciate them
I wish I lived in Little Rock!! Evanescence's following has made it all the way to TN! I love their stuff! This song, to me, tells the story of a girl who leaves all that she knows to find happiness and will soon realise that happiness lies in what she left... A little artist license taken, yes, but I like to see beyond the song, ya know?
it almost seems like the person of this story has a problem with her family and forced to live on the street and only has 20 bucks in her pocket
Amazing Song. If you ever get the chance to go see Evanescence i strongly suggest you do so. They are completely Amazing. There music is both lifting and spiritual. This song is mainly about a girl just leaving stuff behind and trying to move forward...day by day...
exodus means to depart and it goes on from there i don't know what she means but she does one hell of a job writing and making these songs great.
i really love this song... i assume, from the title..
that it's all about leaving something that isn't right for you, but has been a huge part of your life? perhaps a relationship, or drugs, although neither of those seem to fit into the lyrics perfectly... perhaps a career. It's as if it's somwhere she's spent so long in, that it feels safe, even though it's the worst thing she's had to bear... so she has to get away, although it will be hard?
but, i really could be totally wrong! great song anyway, one of my favourites!
