This is one of my favorite songs from this group. I think that the song in part is about a person who's dying inside and hides it behind a smile.
Someone who hides behind cheerfully over-forward mannerisms, and is forever subtly trying to put people off guard. It's camouflage. The person doesn't know why they do it, and they're begging someone to see through to the real them and just set them free.
