Inner City Blues (Make Me Wanna Holler) Lyrics

Dah, dah, dah, dah
dah, dah, dah, dah, dah, dah, dah
Dah, dah, dah, dah
Dah, dah, dah, dah, dah, dah, dah
Dah, dah, dah
Rockets, moon shots
Spend it on the have nots
Money, we make it
Fore we see it you take it
Oh, make you wanna holler
The way they do my life
Make me wanna holler
The way they do my life
This ain't livin', This ain't livin'
No, no baby, this ain't livin'
No, no, no
Inflation no chance
To increase finance
Bills pile up sky high
Send that boy off to die
Make me wanna holler
The way they do my life
Make me wanna holler
The way they do my life
Dah, dah, dah
Dah, dah, dah
Hang ups, let downs
Bad breaks, set backs
Natural fact is
I can't pay my taxes
Oh, make me wanna holler
And throw up both my hands
Yea, it makes me wanna holler
And throw up both my hands
Crime is increasing
Trigger happy policing
Panic is spreading
God know where we're heading
Oh, make me wanna holler
They don't understand
Dah, dah, dah
Dah, dah, dah
Dah, dah, dah

Mother, mother
Everybody thinks we're wrong
Who are they to judge us
Simply cause we wear our hair long

Great way to end the original version of What's Goin On. The first stanza talks about the money that the US Government was giving NASA during the mid 1960s to the early 1970s, and the disenfranchisement many inner city blacks felt that their issues were being completely ignored.

I have always loved this songst 66 years old it still rings true unfortunately,The verse that stands out shockingly, is " "TRIGGER HAPPY POLICING" STILL,almost 50 years later, worse than ever for African Americans and the "trigger happy policing" Heavy on the heart!!!

I can't believe no one has commented on this song. This is definitely Marvin Gaye's best song, as far as I have heard. A totally lovely and wonderful call to arms.

self-explanatory; seems to fit the 60's/70's very well.

Do you think it’s inappropriate to cover such songs (see lyrics) by nowadays western artists? Or could it be seen as a „cherished“ historical view to the past?
