we close our eyes and look in opposite direction
we ignore the threats and hope they'll go away
we refuse to pay attention to the dangers we create
in the name of our fathers we kill our children
we wait and think that we are biding our time
we keep silent, we believe in our strength
we trust in propaganda of the wonders of tomorrow
in the shadow of contempt we are victims in the end
we dance to the sound of sirens
we watch genocide to relax
we dance to the sound of sirens
we are the heroes of self-deception
we are nailed to the ground, frozen in our movements
we listen while the sirens sound, speaking of improvements
we have anger in our souls that waits to be released
in the chill of fear we're petrified and useless when it counts
we ignore the threats and hope they'll go away
we refuse to pay attention to the dangers we create
in the name of our fathers we kill our children
we wait and think that we are biding our time
we keep silent, we believe in our strength
in the shadow of contempt we are victims in the end
we watch genocide to relax
we dance to the sound of sirens
we are the heroes of self-deception
we listen while the sirens sound, speaking of improvements
in the chill of fear we're petrified and useless when it counts

I love this song! What more can I say? It's great!
A testament to how stupid and uncivilized the world is today :D
while i believe this song does deal with the world in general being uncvilized i think it has another meaning as well. when i first heard i had the 'dancing to the sound of sirens' stuck in my head. that's my favorite line and leads me to think this song might also be about the darker side of clubbing and dancing at goth clubs. everytim i hear this song i get that picture in my mind being at a club and listening to the industrial music and sirens and lights going off. makes me want to dance and be a goth :)
Personally, I think that Vehementi has it pretty right. It's about people being ignorant to the way that those who lead us are destroying the world with our consent, speaking of a better future while trashing the present. Or something to that effect, anyway.
I really fail to see how the song has "anything" to do with dancing at an industrial/ebm club, or being a goth. One word, in this instance "dance", does not mean the song has anything to do with clubbing. I know that is only a personal interpretation of the song, but, urr, I really don't think they're sing about "gothness".
The thing I dont get.... nowhere in the song is there a bloody theremin playing.
Uhm, isn't that thing in the background around 1:25 a theremin?
This song is riddled with hints at the masses eagerness for destruction... "We dance to the sound of sirens" could mean the sirens that are sounded during a time of crises, while "We watch genocide to relax" speaks of our interest in warfare, just so long as it isn't us. Yeah, there's plenty more. Listen to this song.
But where the hell is the theremin? :)
Sorry for double-posting, but I can't find this instrument anywhere during the track.
For Sjrv: There is no Theremin on this track. It was named Theremin in honour of the inventor of that instrument, who had recently died when they made the track. The story is even on the official homesite of covenant under faq.
And secondly; I dont think the sirens have anything to do with the alarms we know today. According to greek mythology Sirens were females living on an island who could sing so beautiifully that anyone who listened to it would become enchanted. The legend says that sailors approaching the island were drawn to them by their enchanting singing, causing them to sail on the cliffs and drown.
