Can't Cry Hard Enough Lyrics
I'm gonna live my life
Like everyday's the last
Without a simple goodbye
It all goes by so fast
And now that you're gone
I can't cry hard enough
No I can't cry hard enough
For you to hear me now
Can I open my eyes
And see for the first time
I've let go of you like
A child letting go of his kite
There it goes
Up in the sky
There it goes
Beyond the clouds
For no reason why
I can't cry hard enough
No I can't cry hard enough
For you to hear me now
Can I look back in vain
And see you standing there
With all that remains
Its just an empty chair
And now that you're gone
I can't cry hard enough
No I can't cry hard enough
For you to hear me now
There it goes
Up in the sky
There it goes
Beyond the clouds
For no reason why
I can't cry hard enough
No I can't cry hard enough
For you to hear me now
Like everyday's the last
Without a simple goodbye
It all goes by so fast
And now that you're gone
I can't cry hard enough
No I can't cry hard enough
For you to hear me now
And see for the first time
I've let go of you like
A child letting go of his kite
Up in the sky
There it goes
Beyond the clouds
For no reason why
I can't cry hard enough
No I can't cry hard enough
For you to hear me now
And see you standing there
With all that remains
Its just an empty chair
And now that you're gone
I can't cry hard enough
No I can't cry hard enough
For you to hear me now
Up in the sky
There it goes
Beyond the clouds
For no reason why
I can't cry hard enough
No I can't cry hard enough
For you to hear me now

I recall hearing this song on lots of 9/11 tribute videos... and I recalled hearing this song in my head about a week after my mom passed away. And it really hit me then because I couldn't cry anymore.. I was out of tears by then and my eyes were still red and sore. I think they put this song out in the early 90s but I don't recall hearing it then. Great song. Doesn't try too hard to explain the meaning of loss or the meaning of life or some granduer thought. It's simple and I like it. It focuses on perhaps a single moment/s when you just think of someone or something that is missing and that emptiness you feel at that moment.
Peace
I can really relate to this song after losing my granddfather of cancer a few months ago. I love this song because it is simple and moving.
I do recall being 12 in 1992 and hearing this song on the radio and on an episode of 90210 where Dylan's dad died.
A good friend of mine showed me this song and it meant a lot to her. I have listened to it millions of times since then. To me it means that the person in the song did not get to say a last goodbye or anything. Now they cannot cry hard enough for the person who passed away to hear them.
i was in mogadishu when this song came out, my boyfriend had been killed by a drunk driver in 87, we were 17 when i lost him. i never got to say good-bye to him and he was the love of my life. when i heard this song 5 years later, it was like being hit by a bullet to the heart (still wish i had been). i went into combat 4 days later with the lyrics and memories echoing in my head the whole time, how i didn't get myself or anyone on my team killed i'll never know. now, 36 years later, it's still an up-hill battle to move on, those feelings and love and memories never really go away, they just become less controlling.
