One Too Many Blows To The Head Lyrics

I don’t want to get back into the ring
But I feel like these gloves are glued to knuckles
And every time, and every time I try to stand up for myself, yea yea
I start to feel, I feel my knees start to buckle, buckle, yeah…yeahhhhhhhh
One too many blows to the head
Left me for dead, but still I fight on
One too many blows to the head
Left me for dead, but still I fight on
And as I step into the, step into the, step into the, step into the, step into the, step step step into the ring…
I see my opponent, he is 10 feet tall and 500 pounds, yeah, this is getting kind of frightening
(I have no idea what he says here.)
That’s when he turns to me and says, and I quote: “Boy…use a little less whitening, whitening, yeahhhhh”
One too many blows to the head
Left me for dead, but still I fight on
One too many blows to the head
Left me for dead, but still I fight on
Yeah, a da-dat, a da-dat, a da-dat, a da-dat, a dat-dat-dat-dat, waaaa, huhh, uh.
Cos I’ve got everything I want but (???)
Yeah! Hey! L-l-l-la, l-l-l-la, l-l-l-la-la-la-la, wabudo wabudo…knock ‘im out
Dut-dut-dut, dut-dut-dut, dut-dut-dut, dut-dut-dut, dut-dut-dut, yeahhhhhh
One too many blows to the head
Left me for dead, but still I fight on
One too many blows to the head
Left me for dead, but still I fight on
One too many blows to the head, yeah
Left me for dead, but still I fight on
One too many, one-one too many blows to the head
Left me for dead, but still I fight on

Part of the lyrics where the guy didn't know what he was saying are "and as we knock gloves (x4)" but I'm not sure what he says after that.

Oh and "wabudo! wabudo! Knock him out!" should actually be "Body blow! Body blow! Knock him out!" It's a reference to an 80's stand up arcade game called Punch Out! The game would yell out the hit that you got on your opponent, (i.e. Upppercut! Body Blow!) and when your opponent got weak it would tell you to "Knock him out!", prompting you to use a power punch to end the fight.

I will come right out and say it: this song is about Punch-Out!!!, and I love it.

I think it's about how life keeps beating you down but how you still get up every morning and try for whatever it is you're trying for...

Oh, c'mon, that's not even funny. I did not click "Add" that many times.

I think this song is more about having to go through some sort of routine which is not very enjoyable. I don't think it's so much that life is beating the subject down and he shakes it off, it's more about the opponent being such an impossible challenge. The whole "one too many blows to the head" alluding, of course, to brain damage. To explain why the subject keeps finding himself in this same impossible situation over and over again.

I have definitely used this on a mix CD for a girl I have found myself in a constant state of going out and breaking up with. It's an impossible cycle, I know I shouldn't go back, but I feel like these gloves are glued to my knuckles.

I love the line "And then he turns to me and says, and I quote, 'BOOOOOOOOOY!!!!!'"

I believe the lines in question go: "And as we knock gloves" (X4) -- Boxers knock their gloves together before a match instead of shaking hands as a show of sportsmanship "His don't even move just a little" -- His opponent so much bigger and stronger that knocking gloves is like hitting a rock! "Lightning! Woah!" -- The realization of how badly he is about to get beaten hits him like a bolt of lightning, causing him to turn pale with fright... thus leading to... "That's when he turned to me and said, and I quote "BOY! Use a little less whitening!" -- His opponent (or the ref?) sees how pale his skin's gotten from fear and makes a snide joke about it.
