Color Me Once Lyrics
Color me once, color me twice
Everything gonna turn out nice
Everlasting arms you gotta
Keep me from these false alarms
Alarm, alarm I see you sad
Maybe I see you I'm glad
Maybe maybe the fire of her desire
Patience, patience said the man
Patience, patience I can't understand
Patience like a man and a wife I got patience
On my neck like a cold, cold knife
I say Jack be nimble Jack fall dead
Jack bend over and give Jilly head
Oh, you gotta help my body heal my soul
Dead men working a sinner a saint
Mixing up a pail of paint
Painted the house, black as night
When the sun came up the house was white
Gotta go on, gotta go on
We gotta go on, you gotta go on
You gotta go on, go on, go on
Try and live life like I couldn't
Everything gonna turn out nice
Everlasting arms you gotta
Keep me from these false alarms
Maybe I see you I'm glad
Maybe maybe the fire of her desire
Patience, patience I can't understand
Patience like a man and a wife I got patience
On my neck like a cold, cold knife
Jack bend over and give Jilly head
Oh, you gotta help my body heal my soul
Mixing up a pail of paint
Painted the house, black as night
When the sun came up the house was white
We gotta go on, you gotta go on
You gotta go on, go on, go on
Try and live life like I couldn't

This song is about a man finding out the realities of life and relationships. You begin life with your arms open to the world, so naive. And when you find out life is cruel you feel as if you have been lied to. Nothing is as it seems. Emotions are like a roller coster and you wonder what people think about you...especially those you have crushes on. So all you have is patience, because the answers don't come until these things or people are unimportant to you, and it doesn't matter anymore. But you gotta go on.
I think this song was used in "The Crow" and ot was perfect for that movie. The song itself is depressng but in a good way
well said
This is my favourite Violent Femmes song...very different.
This song was off of "The Crow" and it is awesome! The lyrics are great and I agree with Beth on the meaning.
Was recorded during the 'why do birds sing?' sessions, but Gordon Gano refused to put it on the album. The rest of that album was very acoustic whereas this has some moody synth in it, so probably a good call. Great track for the Crow movie.
Fantastic song.
I would like to first say yes great song ! I feel so much when I hear this .. pair it with a movie with such huge ideals and motivated by dark yet really about what is just yet actually unjust ! Perfect . Anyway ... I would say without the hopeless sound of the dadaddadada strung as slow and in a it’s just the way it is manner I would have thought lyrics would have gone to a happy sounding tune ... but it is not a nice truth realized . This song depicts the disappointment the hard truth that your ready to be happy to be a friend even when they are sad you are still glad to see them ... but perhaps it’s a problem that men and women have to either get passed the sexual aspect on either side or both or perhaps but in any event the potential fakes things up . In other scenarios your friends aren’t always as invested as you are and they can just leave you and not come back . You may have painted it only yo discover it is the opposite of what you painted ..
Isnt it "I am one of her desires" not "the fire of her desire"
