Company Calls Lyrics

I'll take the best of your bad moods
And dress them up to make a better you
Because all the company calls amount to one paycheck
I'd squeeze a heart through my fingertip
But I type too slow to make expressions stick
And it's like TV with a microchip

Set your sights to sink the partyline
Because it's so tired
Set your sights! Destroy this mock-shrine
Because it's so tired

Let's cut our losses at both ends
And aim your car away from all our friends
Leaving the dishes stacked in the sink

Set your sights to sink the partyline
Because it's so tired
Set your sights! Destroy this mock-shrine
Because it's so tired

I'd keep a distance because the complications cloud it all
And mail a postcard sending greetings from the Eastern Bloc
Synapse to synapse: possibilities will thin or fade
Your wedding figurines: I'd melt so I could drink them in
And drink them in, and drink them in

I'll take the best of your bad moods
And dress them up to make a better you
Because all the company calls amount to one paycheck

Set your sights to sink the partyline
Because it's so tired
Set your sights! Destroy this mock-shrine
Because it's so tired

I really don't understand why everyone seems to like the epilogue better. This song is a lot better in my opinion.

goaliepride, I totally agree with you. I absoutely love this song and I'm also "one of the few" who actually prefers it to the epilogue, although I absolutely love the epilogue too. I think that n220u_flyer pretty much hit the nail on the head with his explanation, sounds absolutely on point. This album has some of the deepest music about relationships I have EVER heard and that I ever will hear. I hardly ever make comments on this site, but this song and album is so woth it. I really hope that when people here these songs that they don't take...

I really hope that when people here these songs that they don't take it lightly. There are serious messages and feelings behind them. This Company Calls song may sound upbeat and jumpy, but behind it was a painful singer talking about real issues. For me, this is what music is about and to be honest in this day and age I rarely ever find music this good anymore and it's actually very sad. I still play this track over and over again almost daily.

basically this song is ben getting drunk while finding out that his one-night stand or previous girlfriend from title track is getting married. squeezing a heart through his fingertip is probably referring to him trying to tell her thru email or aim or whatever what his true feelings are but he types too slow so he doesnt see it as effective. as for sending a postcard from the eastern block, he wants to acknowledge the marriage and his loss but he cant come to grips with it in person so he needs to keep a distance. and then it flows into the epilogue which is the actual wedding. this whole album relates to wanting a relationship with someone you cant do it with because they are already taken and then troubles that that causes. check out some of the input from other members on different songs and youll see what i mean. hope this helps out a bit.

I'll take the best of your bad moods and dress them up to make a better you, 'cause all the company calls amount to one paycheck.

  • girl is a handful but guy still sees the better in her.

Set your sights, destroy this party line, Cause it's so tired. Set your sights, destroy this mock-shrine, Cause it's so tired.

  • they're not together anymore, but there's still communication. but he's thinking about cutting it as it's getting very tiresome.

I'd keep my distance 'cause the complications cloud it all, and mail a postcard sending greetings from the Eastern Bloc. Synapse to synapse: possibilities will thin or fade. Your wedding figurines: I'd melt so I could drink them in, and drink them in, and drink them in

  • then the girl is about to get marries, i think he was invited or something. But he'd like to keep his distance because he knows that he's still not over her, and everything will get complicated, so he just drowned himself in alcohol.

Basically, a story of a guy who's still not over his ex, however, the ex is already happy with her life

@jerrica114 what does the line "cause all the company calls amount to one paycheck" means ?

It seems that the speaker is frustrated; with work (all the company calls - which bother people - come to one paycheck, which is insignificant in the long run), sociality (i type too slow to make expression stick..) and this frustration comes out to venting, but in the end the venting doesnt accomplish anything, and there are worse situations, but even though chances are fleeting and so much is frustrating, there is still hope for happiness - which leads us to the epilogue...

does this song seem to be like him kinda getting drunk before he storms into their wedding in the epilogue? I always pictured it that way...

cheesepickle, i think, has it. this song gives off a drinking atmoshpere where he's thinking about all the things in that relationship and what became of it, and then the epilogue gives of a drunken emotion feel, where hes obvioulsy hurt and angry.
