The Employment Pages Lyrics
We spread out and occupy the cracks in the urban streets
Idle now, I rearrange the furniture as you sleep
As you sleep, as you sleep
It's so appropriate, the way we amplify the sound
And then the neighbors drop by
And they ask (us) to turn it down again
We spread out and everyone is frightfully more aware
So impressed, the cocktail politics and obscure details
It's so appropriate, the way we amplify the sound
And then the neighbors drop by
And they ask (us) to turn it down again
And it was true that I was truly failing
But you were gone and I was home
Calling around, but nothing was found worthwhile
We spread out and occupy the cracks in the urban streets
Idle now, I rearrange the furniture as you sleep
As you sleep, as you sleep
Idle now, I rearrange the furniture as you sleep
As you sleep, as you sleep
And then the neighbors drop by
And they ask (us) to turn it down again
So impressed, the cocktail politics and obscure details
And then the neighbors drop by
And they ask (us) to turn it down again
But you were gone and I was home
Calling around, but nothing was found worthwhile
Idle now, I rearrange the furniture as you sleep
As you sleep, as you sleep

i just love love the line "i rearrange the furniture as you sleep." it's so classic and irresistible.
Such a sweet song...makes me feel all mellow. I always smile when he says "It's so appropriate, uh-huh". Lol, I'm a dork. :)
we spread out and occupy the cracks in the urban streets *meaning- Ben and his band want to cover more ground so death cab is now traveling trying to get actual gigs by performing in the city on the sidewalk for cash
Idle now, I rearranged the furniture as you sleep, as you sleep, as you sleep *meaning Ben is unemployed, so he pursues a music career day in and day out hoping things will turn out in his favor. At night Ben rearranges the furniture in order to have enough space for the band and the equipment.
Its so appropriate, the way we amplify the sound,
And then the neighbors drop by and they ask to turn it down again *self explanatory
We spread out and everyone is frightfully more aware. *meaning- the band is out again performing in the city on the sidewalk for cash and they're building a buzz very quickly.

This song reminds me of every night I am out at a show, or driving around with friends, it just gives me that late-night adrenalin feeling. I love it.
i agree with you. this song is so pretttty.
For as pretttty as it is...I think it's about the crumbling of a relationship....and a couple fighting "the way we amplify the sound," and "I was home calling around" is him trying to get her back but failing...like, it's the break-up!
I agree with GeeMo-definitley Ben lookin fo love--but the first billion times I heard it I thought he was talking about his band. Genius songwriting
maybe it is... or he's just missing her somehow.
but the break-up-thing seems nearest, you're right
What the hell is your problem with me? Shut the fuck up and stop acting like I'm the only person on this damn page or site not talking about how a song makes me feel.
Ha! I agree with strykerchick. This is one of my favorite DCFC songs of all time. It also makes me relax-mellow. Reminds me of writing/drawing...yah and that guy is not even a real fan...cos fans dont rip each other specialy about the same common iikes.
