Eggplant

"Paint me by numbers, and don't ask me why" seems to reffer to the fact that there is no reason to speak of. The song (and likely the relationship it's about) is simple, granted, it's simple insanity, but it's still simple. There is no discernable method to the madness, but the song is better for it. It's like he took every random thought and aspect of the relationship, rhymed them, and started singing. I love it

this song is CRAZY... and i love it. i have no idea what it "means" to me... haha... it's just funky.

I think it has something to do with the speaker wanting to be a 'king' for the person being spoken to. 'Eggplant and Cavoar for you' gives me the generalization that wealthy people eat caviar or sophisticated people, so maybe hes saying if I were king (or if i was in a powerful or noble position) i would give you things you dont have (eggplant and caviar) to win you over. Like when it says 'Apple pie or Apple seed All the mouths that I must feed' hes saying do you want the best of me or the remains? because he has to feed others too. and cold sheets or tumble weed reminds me of lonlieness and he says he needs someone. ummm Who knows? im a nut case and that made no sense haha

This is my favorite song off of this album. Very imaginative wording to describe how much you love someone.

Maybe we'll get lucky and they'll write a song about a broom. :) Or a lawnmower? a toothpick?

To me the song is about something taking care of and protecting somebody from the harsh outside, like a parent and little kid. "Cover your face" is like telling them not to look at the hardships since they are too young or in a perfect world nobody would see them, and they try to make life for them like a fantasy with kings and mother time and eggplant and caviar. Like a parent pretending with a little kid. The singer would love to have apple pie for the person he's singing to, but in reality it is hard times and all there is is appleseeds and cold sheets and he needs to put food on the table. The situation seems stressful and hard, but there's positivity like the person he's singing to is holding up his wings like the sky and they are like perfume, metaphorically it is covering the bad parts of life and giving the willpower to keep going.
