He may be extremely bizarre, but that doesn't necessarily imply that the song means nothing. There's something very deliberate about all his songs -- if you don't believe me, check the frequency spectrum of 'Windowlicker' and you'll discover that an image of the trademark evil face is embedded into the song itself. It's disturbing evil genius.

That said, the French idiom for "windowshopping" translates into English as "licking the window." With the French phrase already in the song, I think that counts for something. Plus, in the video the two guys in the car are cruising around for women, and even when they find some that they want they can't get them. That seems like windowshopping to me.

lol, i cant beleive some1 actually did the "lyrics" for this. ya, windowlicker also does mean a retard but in the sense of a time-waster, idiot ie. that kid in class who has bcome mentally stumped( excess in vgmes, mall trips, weed, comics, tv) and laughs at stupid things for hrs that ever1 else shakes off. i think that the title was to show his implication, this song that could be seen as a piece of junk by many, techno rubbish. thing is its not, Richard doesn't operate like that. I also dont think its some deep philosophical thing but it sure is hell deeper thn Mtv music they play so its worth thinking about. i think he wanted to create a song that dressed itself like a pop hit that sounds deep but in way that made fun of pple(-half the rubbish pple consider music and showing how shallow it is) and maybe making fun of sex in music(the sexual moans-sex in pop music, the spken french-language of love but means nothing once u translate it just like the emptiness of some spoken lyrics in hallow but popular songs). i got this conclusion after wathing the amazing video since that satirizes hip hop vids. mayb it could also be poking fun at how we can view relationships in an artifical, rose-tinted light (again, the sexual moans and the french line) but just like the characters in the vid(ya, sorry i cant seperate the two)we are rudely awakened( the girl w Richard's face turning around/ music changes direction then ). things are seen in the real light and simple truth( song's oohing and ahhing have gone and what left is a techno based sound). does that make any sense? i struggle to find the right words sometimes. lol, i cant contradicted myself. i searched for the depth in this but im sure there's something there just dont know what. well, that's how i c it

i am not quit sure what this song means, but i believe that the video is implying the modern day rap video and what people will do if they do not like the women

yeah i can't believe it either, how you put weed, comics, and tv in that list. people who do such things are not idiots or time-wasters, the only ones that are are people who talk about such things in a negative manner, when they have no idea what the fuck they are talking about.

Classic love story true to his western tx roots. One of my favorites as a story, but I think there are alot of songs that are amazing not even listed on this site. I guess I should figure out how to add them, because I have about 8 REK cd's.

Both as a standalone and as part of the DSOTS album, you can take this lyric as read. As a matter of public record, Jourgensen's drug intake was legendary even in the 1980s. By the late 90s, in his own words, he was grappling with massive addiction issues and had lost almost everything: friends, spouse, money and had nearly died more than once. "Dark Side of the Spoon" is a both funny & sad title for an album made by a musical genius who was losing the plot; and this song is a message to his fans & friends saying he knows it. It's painful to listen to so I'm glad the "Keith Richards of industrial metals" wised up and cleaned up. Well done sir.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.
