Grave Architecture Lyrics

Come on in
Grave architecture
Grave architecture
Walk the marble malls
The monuments to those who fall
And it's a pocket lesson narco shelve it
Strip the crypt and the others erupt
And the hood's so rad
And I'm fucking glad
Glad to see that I know what it means
It takes a lot
Grave architecture
Grave architecture
Stroll past the strip
Is it old?
Am I clipped?
Am I just a phantom waiting to be ripped around
on shady ground?
And the lampshade's poised
On the overwhelmed
Crooks, they need the talent to breathe
It takes a lot
Oh yeah,
You want to be like a blind fish
Positive, we're positive...go!
Takes a lock-smith, baby
To push you off
and i’m pushing you back (and every time?)
It takes a locksmith, baby, to push you off
It takes a lot!

The breakdowns are downright scary. Sounds like the band is falling apart as they play, until everything comes together at the end for one of my favorite moments in music.

Another Pavement song with sexual connotations.

Let's see.

Grave..architecture for a grave.

"Strip the cr(y)p(t) and the others erupt."

"Crooks (hey hey), they need the talent to breed"

"It takes a locksmith baby to push you off And I'm pushing you back It takes a locksmith baby to push you off"

I believe at least one layer of this song is about rejecting seduction, as the views by SM or whom the song is representing is Just. Not. Interested.

Furthermore if you can follow this interpretation, the "And the hood so rad and I'm fucking glad" line is fucking hilarious.

On further listening I hear.

"Strip the crypt and the ovens erupt"

and

"Is it old, am I (e?)quipped"

I'm in complete agreement with Willd.
