Fight This Generation Lyrics
Look up to people so tall to you
I can't so I won't stand
Up chuck break luck
Look for the splinters
You might see where they come out
Go down sweet Yardley
I won't let you fall down
Sweet Yardley
I won't let you fall down
Here now
God damn the guts and the gore
Nobody's crying cause there's no one to score for
Come up sweet Randy
I won't let you fall
What you gotta lose
What you gotta prove
Who you gonna screw
Down here now, here now
I am here now
I am here now
Your life is selected
To come
Waiting for the amelioration
Generation, fight this generation
Fight this generation (x17)
Stop right
I can't so I won't stand
Up chuck break luck
Look for the splinters
You might see where they come out
Go down sweet Yardley
I won't let you fall down
Sweet Yardley
I won't let you fall down
Here now
Nobody's crying cause there's no one to score for
Come up sweet Randy
I won't let you fall
What you gotta lose
What you gotta prove
Who you gonna screw
Down here now, here now
I am here now
I am here now
To come
Waiting for the amelioration
Generation, fight this generation

this song is excellent, yo.
First of all, I love the way Flux=Rad segways into this. The song is so atmospheric and it really just creates this mellow spaced-out mood (in great contrast to Flux=Rad). The lyrics themselves could really be about anything which is true with a lot of Pavement songs. I'd interpet it as being about rebellion that is ultimatley futile and pointless.
The version on Slow Century is excellent.
"this was a song to be played at a mythic awards ceermony. the singer/emcee asks people to come on up and accept their prizes, but it becomes apparent that there is no reason to award anyone . The ceremony becomes a sort of self-examination, but the audience is too weak to raise their voices until a snake charmer takes the stage and gets a pathetic rage going. People mumble along, but no one gets very excited, so "the song" ignores the audience and goes where it wants until a puma escapes from a cage and mauls the singer/emcee. The song ends wtihout fanfare." -Malkmus

i don't know why that posted 3 times, my apologies.
I love the live version on the Sordid Sentinels version of Wowee Zowee. In it, he also says "Jonathan Yardley" instead of just "Yardley" who is a book critic for the Washington Post. Why they referenced him, I have no idea...
