Miss World Lyrics
I am the girl you know,
Can't look you in the eye
I am the girl you know,
So sick I cannot try
I am the one you want,
Can't look you in the eye
I am the girl you know,
I lie and lie and lie
I'm miss world
Somebody kill me
Kill me pills
No one cares, my friends
My friends
I'm miss world
Watch me break and
Watch me burn
No one is listening, my friends
I made my bed, I'll lie in it
I made my bed, I'll die in it
I made my bed, I'll lie in it
I made my bed, I'll die in it
Kill girls watch
When I eat ether
Suck me under
Maybe forever, my friends
I made my bed, I'll lie in it
I made my bed, I'll die in it
I made my bed, I'll lie in it
I made my bed, I'll cry in it
I made my bed, I'll lie in it
I made my bed, I'll cry in it
I made my bed, I'll lie in it
I made my bed, I'll lie in it,
My friend
I am the girl you know,
Can't look you in the eye
Can't look you in the eye
I am the girl you know,
So sick I cannot try
I am the one you want,
Can't look you in the eye

I love this song so much. That's why it's my username. It's so stupid that some people don't give Hole a chance just because they don't like Courtney Love. I happen to love Courtney Love, Hole, Nirvana, and the Smashing Pumpkins. You can't get so involved in their little personal feuds. Kurt Cobain disliked a lot of people. As a Nirvana fan, I respect the fact that he loved Courtney and that's that. Listening to the music SOMEHOW seems a bit more important than the artists' personal lives.
Anyway, I definitely feel like I can relate to this, because I'm a girl and am faced with the expectations society has of my gender. I feel silly pointing it out, but a lot of people miss it: SHE'S BEING IRONIC. To me, this song is her take on the misogynist society in which we live. She's singing about (or rather, from the perspective of) this woman who is so "perfect" and so loved but is empty and sad inside. She's not even a woman, she's a girl, a MISS. And that's the girl that everyone looks up to; the girl every little girl wants to be. And that is very obviously a problem. She's pointing out the sickness of our society; that we ADMIRE this person who's so screwed up just because she mirrors how screwed up we are as a society. That, to me, is what Courtney is trying to say. Or at least what this song means to me.
Alex 0203, though I agree with most of what you said, Courtney is acually very intelligent. Sometimes she says things that make her seem dumb but read her journal book thingy or her mother's book (or at least read an interview where she's not high or drunk); she's clearly creative and bright.
misogynistic? you wish. degrading to women & men, its not a one way street in this society

you want misognyistic go live in the middle east

@missworld77 first off, no. It’s not about society, none of that. It’s her suffering amongst all the bs she created, she’s tired of it, she’s done- hence “kill me pills.” She made her bed, by SETTING UP Kurt’s death, and allllll the cover ups behind it. Am I saying this song is about his death? No. All the guilt and shame and lies she’s has behind it- come forth in this song.

to me this is about her being depressed and feeling like no one cares, or notices her pain. Like she's falling apart but can't reach out to anybody because she is too ashamed.
i hate when people blame courtney 4 killing kurt! people are only looking for a reason to hate her cause you don't like her music! i also noticed most people that hate on courtney are men.SEXIST! grrrls rock too. kurt would hate you . nirvanas my fav. band but holes is frikkin awesome!
@grunge girl Because you hate someone of the opposite gender that makes you in no way sexist, if they called her something offensive because of it like a bitch, etc, that would be sexist. You genius.

@grunge girl she didn’t kill him with her own hands, she had it done. I can respect her music- love her music, but she is a very misguided woman and fame and money got to her. Leading up to his death, there was a pissing match between Nirvana and Hole as far as who was gonna open for Lalpolooza- and Kurt is dead shortly before/after the show.

My take of the song is that it refers to outside image versus internal distress. Miss world symbolises what people see, beautiful, perfect and happy. However inside she is dying inside. "i'm miss world, somebody kill me kill me pills, no one cares my friends my friends" - She makes reference to her friends, by friends i think she is refering to those people who become your friends on a shallow baisis. Fairweather friends, who fail to recognize, or turn away from her in her severe depression. "I make my bed I lie in it, I make my bed I lie in it", refers to her awareness that she has put herself in this mess by continually covering up her pain as away to preserve her pristine image. "I am the girl who cant look you in the eye I am the girl I lie and lie and lie" refers to her faking her perfect life. She lives in a constant lie to preserve her image. Essentailly her pain becomes to much to bare, and even though she is surrounded by her adoring friends she is aware their friendship is based on her flash and she is therefore alone in her misery
To me this song is about herself or someone drowning in depression or falling apart and noone can see it,not even her freinds and they wont listen to her.Even though shes in the lime light either as "Miss world" or Courtney Love.People are just too blind to see her problems.I really love this song.
We all obviously agree this song is based on depression. Some of the best works are. It's when you really have alot of emotion you can get out and share, you know? I think in this song, Miss World, is coming to terms with herself, while at the same time looking for attention, someone or something to help her out. She understands herself alone is the reason for her feeling this way. She's facing it, and although it hurts she's willing to the blame. Full responsibility, even if it's too late for anyone to care.
this was my favourite song when I was 12 years old. I dont think i really payed that much attention to the lyrics then (lol) but in retrospect, it's simple but poetic.
kill me pills, no one cares my friends my friends
I always heard the line ''kill me pills'' as though she's calling the drugs 'kill me pills''. not like she's asking them to kill her. make any sense?
kill-me pills is an anne sexton reference. she attempted to overdose on tablets (nembutal) and when it didn't work, she called them her kill-me pills.

I hear that line the same way as well. I also hear it as her addressing the pills as friends and asking them to essentially put her out of her misery and make her "forever" by ending her life.

this song always touches me. It just sounds like such a classic tragic song. No female fronted band has ever touched me as much as Hole especially on this record. I actually like Hole better than Nirvana as far as records.
AHHHH! she didn't fucking kill kurt! i've already written this essay a million times, so i'm not writing it again. look at my comment for malibu.
i really feel myself in this song. great stuff
