Best Sunday Dress Lyrics

Put on my best Sunday dress
And walked straight into this mess of mine
And I put on my best Sunday dress
And I walked straight into this mess

And watching you burn - ai-ay
Watching you burn - ai-ay
Watching you burn - ai-ay
Watching you burn - ah

Pale blue eyes so young
Pale blue eyes so far away
Watch me with his sorrow
Forgive me all his pain

And I've come here to confess
To the wind and the rain and the glorious fame
And I've come here all undressed
For the numb and the dumb both say

The name that you burn - ai-ay
Watching you burn - ai-ay
Watching you burn - ai-ay
Watching you burn - ah

Pale blue eyes so dumb
Pale blue eyes so far away
Take him to the river
Forgive us all his pain

Oooh, I'm coming undone
He comes from the coal mine
I see you shine like a diamond
And curse us all goodnight

And I put on my best Sunday dress
And I walked straight into this mess of mine
And I've come here all undressed
With the poison and pain to take
With mine that you burn - ay-ah
That you burn - ah

Pale blue eyes so young
Pale blue eyes so far away
Take me to his sorrow
Forgive us all his pain

Watching you burn (put on my best Sunday dress) - ay-ah
Watching you burn - ay-ah
Watching you burn (put on my best Sunday dress) - ay-ah
Watching you burn - ay-ah
Watching you burn (put on my best Sunday dress) - ay-ah
Watching you burn - ay-ah
Watching you burn (put on my best Sunday dress) - ah

First of all, I'm so sick of people going on this site to carry on about how Courtney killed Kurt, Courtney's a man, blah blah blah. If you want to talk about that, go to a site discussing that, stop doing it on here.

The meaning of this song, to me at least, is about walking into a disaster you've created on your own, and having to pretend like everything's okay. Hurting the one(s) you love the most in the process.

first, it's deffinatly NOT about kurt because it was written way before all of that. Second, its sugar babylon, not baby doll

Actually fasterpussycat, I believe you're wrong. Courtney was in many different bands before. Sugar Babylon and Sugar Baby Doll were two different bands, but this wasn't their song. The band that originally did this song was The Pagan Babies which consisted of Courtney, Kat, and two other girls. And that version of Best Sunday Dress is quite different. I believe when Hole took this version, Courtney could have written it about Kurt. The Pagan Babies and Hole's version only have the chorus in common. So I do think that this song is about Kurt.

The Sugar Babylon song has only chorus from this song. The other lyrics are completely different, there's just "put on my best sunday dress and i walk straight into this mess of mine", if I remember right. Feels like it's about Kurt.. anyway it's beautiful.

This version is about Kurt. The older version's were about Billy and probably others, this one is in fact about Kurt and his death and how she was effected by his loss.

Just because she wrote a version of it back in the 1980's do not mean that she isn't allow to re-write this version about her late husband. Also their are pics of Courtney pregnant, and also if her naked..I'm 100% certain she is a lady.

i think that in a way this is a sweet song, but it is also very sad. i think this song is about someone who puts on a happy face for people, when reallt they are dying inside. i think she uses the line "best sunday dress" as a metaphor for "a smiling face".

@alex_0203 no its about fixing the mess of her life

this song is one of courtney's earliest carried through from her babes in toyland days with kat bjelland. "A three chord cacophony" as Courtney once described it.

what the hell, these lyrics are worng ...

after the first verse it goes into the chorus like above... then it goes " pale blue eyes soo young, pale blue eyes soo far away. " " wash away with sorrow, forgive me of his pain...I've come here to confess...to thewind and the rain and the glorious things...and i've come here all undressed...for the numb and the dumb say thy name...watching you burn..." then it goes into pale blue eyes , take me to the river, forgive me for his pain. "

This song has to be about the whole controversy about Kurt Cobains death and her being bamed for it. The death affected her very deaply and this song is very beautiful.
