All The Kids Are Right Lyrics

you heard that we were great
but now you think we're lame
since you saw the show last night
you hoped that we would rock
knock it up a notch
rockin was nowhere in sight
and its never good when it goes bad
no one likes to feel like they've been had
and it may be ok
but you won't wear our t-shirts now
anymore
first the band looked wired
then the band looked tired
sluggish and a little slow
he's walking through the set
as drunk as he could get
and what the hell was wrong with joe?
and you could tell the crowd was fading fast
every song we played looser than the last
and it may be ok
but you won't wear our t-shirts now
all the kids, they hold a grudge
their minds are logged onto the net
and all the kids, they hold a grudge
you fail them and they won't forget it
all the kids, they're tired and turn away
they saw what you did
you're all wrong and all the kids are right
you heard that we were great
but now you know we're lame
since you saw the show last night
you hoped that we would rock
you wished that we'd just stop
and finally we said "good night"
when we had returned for the encore
you and half the room had headed for the door
no one wanted more
all the kids, they hold a grudge
their minds are logged onto the net
and all the kids, they hold a grudge
you fail them and they won't forget it
next!

Ironically, the self-deprecation depicted in this song is what really drew me to Local H in the first place. They're amazing.

hmm no one has said it but i don't think this song is really even self deprecating, to me it seems like it is really about kids repeating what a friend of a friend or someone they barely know told them as tho it were some sort of rock gospel. How many times have you heard the same dribble about some bands from people who really have no business at that bands show cuz they don't see anything except one hit song the band had. Its like when kid A) says a band sucks if he's cool enough kids B-Z just fucking agree and repeat his bullshit even if they've never seen them play

idk that's my theory

My Interpretation

Great insights! I'd agree with you but like to add that I just discovered an alternate lyrics version where the chorus line, instead of being "all the kids..." is more like "something in my mind won't let me heart and head and mouth connect it. Something in my mind won't let my heart out of the darkness, yet. It's not over, I'm not sober anymore".

You got it, that's exactly how I saw it....it's about how dependent the music scene is on the fickle and merciless "kids" and it feels sort of bitter about it. Love it.

Basically this song is about a band that gets pretty messed before a show and plays horrible. They end up losing some fans because of this and the fans have moved on to another band and "won't wear their t-shirts now." Kick ass song anyways.

is it me or does the chorus of this song sound like that of "the way"? just a little...

wow..where the fuck are all the comments here??? great band, severly underrated i guess. anyways, i honestly think they wrote this about themselves playing a shitty show way back in the day cause scott (and probably joe) got too drunk to play good. hence why they mention themselves in the song.

Every rock band should play this song when the crowd turns :P but they might get hit with shoes...

Anyway, anyone else think the title is a play on words from The Who's classic The Kids Are Alright? A lot of punk rock/grunge bands take after The Who.

I think the important thing to remember here is that every band has a bad day or two when they're constantly on the road. It's about feeling like you let down the fans for one sub-par show.

Lana Del Rey is notorious for this. Check out her SNL version of "Video Games". She's so nervous she sounds terrible despite being a fantastically talented performer.
