At The Stake Lyrics
May be once
And we became alive
They took the corner of your witches
Fed them all the same
The maker of love for judgements three
Hasn't yet appeared to me
But then I never wanted more than fate
Chased you when you reached out
Blades tore all I see
And when she's been forsaken, baby
Sure it's all not on me
So it seems, and so it's came to be
Might be the voices frightened
So it's got me
The weaker of love for judgements three
Has finally passed indeed
Empty, maybe for a day
Chased you when he reached out
Flames tore all I see
And when she's been forsaked, baby
Sure it's all not on me
Now they're thrown upon me
Tore all my flesh away
Real green should have been forsaken
Leave me for a day.
And we became alive
They took the corner of your witches
Fed them all the same
The maker of love for judgements three
Hasn't yet appeared to me
But then I never wanted more than fate
Chased you when you reached out
Blades tore all I see
And when she's been forsaken, baby
Sure it's all not on me
So it seems, and so it's came to be
Might be the voices frightened
So it's got me
The weaker of love for judgements three
Has finally passed indeed
Empty, maybe for a day
Chased you when he reached out
Flames tore all I see
And when she's been forsaked, baby
Sure it's all not on me
Now they're thrown upon me
Tore all my flesh away
Real green should have been forsaken
Leave me for a day.

I'm pretty sure the line here as "Has finally passed indeed" is actually "Has finally pissed it deep."
There's a lot of occultic symbolism in this song, but I've never been sure what the song is about. Lots of talk of judgement. . .obviously, whatever has happened to leave who ever "she" is forsaken, the speaker thinks he's going to be blamed, physically, morally, and mystically.
I'm pretty sure that more than half these lyrics are not what Buzzo's actually saying.
Unfortunately, I don't know what Buzzo's saying and I don't know any online site that has official lyrics. Usually I think Melvins songs aren't about lyrics just about the sound of the vocals. At the Stake is one of my favorite Melvins songs. The chorus is real heavy but the important thing is the way he draws in his breath before it begins.
I guess it's probably about the general concepts of judgement and punishment.
flames are all i see now they're gonna burn me make all my flesh away
Wow, 3 comments on such a great song? I love the guitar part at the end. The continuous riff. Such A good song.
I've always loved this song, it was actually the song that got me to really look into the Melvins after having semi-listened to them a while. There's something about this song, a dark atmosphere, something beyond the lyrics when you just read them here. Read straight forward as the lyrics are here (if they're right at all) they seem to be about the burning of witches or something of the sorts, but i don't know, there's something more i think.
these are the wrong lyrics for sure. Buzzo enjoy's taunting us through riddle rather than mainstream
Read other Melvins lyrics. I agree with whoever else said it's not about the lyrics. HOWEVER. This song obviously talks about judgment and punishment... and centers around witches.
I also hear Flames are all I see and Now they're gonna burn me Take all my flesh away...
BUT. I don't think it's so much he's shrouding the song in mystery as that he's just saying some minacing-ass stuff to lend to the furious/distraught nature of the song.
Forgive my spelling.
Joan of Arc burned at the stake. You're welcome.
