Into the Night Lyrics
If I was a fly
And I had a day left ‘til I died
I would lay down til tomorrow
You’re clipping my wings
I try to win you back with all my words that you know mean nothing
You could have believed in me
And I saw a tear on a rose and I clipped it off for you
As I gag on my guts ‘cause I’m watching you give up
I’m a tear in the clock as you walk away
I can almost taste the glaze on your lips
Smacking away into the night
They say at least he’s my friend
And he’ll treat you kindly in the end
Call me bitter but I’m brimming with hate for both of you
A film if playing in my head of you fornicating in his bed
The satin sheets are ruby red like your nails that scarred my back
And I saw a tear on a rose so I swept it off for you
I’m a fly on a wall and I’m watching you give up
I’m a tear in the clock as you walk away
I can almost see a shade of your blue eyes
Fading away into the night
You never believed in me
But I will believe in me
Because now I take a match to the rose that I gave, my love, to you
Won’t forgive
Won’t forget
And the rage will lift me up
I hope you choke on his tongue
As I walk away I will not watch his hands as they deftly pull you away
Into the night
And I had a day left ‘til I died
I would lay down til tomorrow
You’re clipping my wings
I try to win you back with all my words that you know mean nothing
You could have believed in me
And I saw a tear on a rose and I clipped it off for you

this song describes a relationship i once had. i dated a guy, we broke up, and 6 months later i started seeing his friend. i know when my ex hears this song, he directs it towards me.
but in my honest opinion, this is one of the most beautiful songs i have ever heard..ever. it goes through the motions of how someone feels when they are no longer in a relationship with someone but they still love them, and their love can turn to hate in the end...they no longer care
my favorite line "The satin sheets are ruby red like your nails that scarred my back"...kinda sexual i must say.
but back to the song, its not like the other say anything songs, its max at a calm.
beautiful.
It's pretty obvious what this song is about. It's a cliched topic, but it's very powerful to hear it come from Max. When it gets to the "AND I SAW A TEAR ON A ROSE..." That's the part that always gets me.
This is one of my favorite songs, i love it so much, it is very powerful and meaningful. I like the part where he says "Now i take a match to the rose that i gave, my love to you" Into the night is a truley great song
"And I saw a tear on a rose and I clipped it off for you"
...isn't it "And I saw a tear on a rose and I swept it off for you?"
@ceasetoresist6 He technically says both in the song

"As you walk away, I can almost see a shade of your blue eyes fading away...." that always gets me
Very Powerful song that has brought me to tears a few times. Along with Resounding.
I've been listening to the discography of this band, and after three albums, I'm at this song, and it hits me. "This guy can't write". I mean, sure, a few of the songs are exceptions, most notably so far are "Alive with the Glory of Love" and "Wow..." but really, lines like "I'm a tear in the clock as you walk away"? Does this imagery make any sense? I don't think so. It's a shame, like a lot of bands, they have a decent enough sound, but suffer from basic writing problems such as bad imagery, disjointed verses, and false rhymes.
i lovelovelove the music in this song. i, personally, DESPISE the lyrics. i think max should have left it instrumental.
i think this song is beautiful and it really strikes a chord with me... to anyone who thinks the lyrics suck..maybe they do to you, but im sure many peiople disagree and the imagery probs means something to max, even if you dont understand it.
Honestly? You truly don't think Max Bemis can write? You must enjoy Yellowcard's lyrics. Because most people with a functioning mind can connect the imagery of "I'm a tear in the clock as you walk away" as Max feels like he is the tear in the clock, as if time is stopping and nothing is moving as he's watching her walk away from him. If you notice he says tear as in rip not tear as in cry. People like you are why I wish SM didn't have a comment board and why I enjoy AP so much much more.
No, I don't think he can write. Your childish insults aside, it may be that he what he is trying to say is that "time stood still" with his line "I'm a tear in the clock as you walk away". However, a tear in a clock is not good imagery. I personally have never heard the saying, and have never seen a torn clock. The metaphor is a bad one. There are plenty of ways to make it known that it seems time is standing still without resorting to shoddy, confusing metaphors where not only do clocks tear, but you...

As for your reasons for not liking comment boards, it sounds as if you simply don't like to have others disagree with you, which I think says more about your character flaws than it does mine.
Keep in mind: the songs off of Baseball are mostly written very early on in Max Bemis's life, mostly from the middle of his teen years. Teenagers aren't always going to hit spot on with figurative language. The fact that he came up with his own metaphor should be respected, even if you dislike it.

Max Bemis can write whatever he wants, And there is so much imagery in this song, when I hear "I’m a tear in the clock as you walk away"- I can imagine a broke heart, a torn heart. ticking, you know, the father clocks, either that, or a cooko clock, hes going insane, he loves the girl he is singing about, but hates her dearly.

MAx bemis wrote this song to exspress his feelings, the words dont make you see, they make you feel, exactly as he did.
