Twin Falls Lyrics
Christmas Twin Falls, Idaho is her oldest memory
She was only two
It was the first time she felt blue
Cafeteria Harrison Elementary
Beneath a parachute I saw her without shoes
7UP I touched her thumb and she knew it was me
Although she couldn't see
Unless of course she peeked
My mom's good she got me out of Twin Falls, Idaho
Before I got too old
You know how that goes
That's where she still was the summer she turned 17
In 1983
Two weeks after me
Last I heard was she had twins
Or maybe it was three
Although I've never seen
But that don't bother me
She was only two
It was the first time she felt blue
Beneath a parachute I saw her without shoes
Although she couldn't see
Unless of course she peeked
Before I got too old
You know how that goes
In 1983
Two weeks after me
Or maybe it was three
Although I've never seen
But that don't bother me

"7UP I touched her thumb and she knew it was me Although she couldn't see Unless of course she peeked "
That just might be the greatest part of any song ever!
This song is about this guy who escaped from a small town and remembers, regretfully, a gradeschool crush who didn't make it out...as a small town girl, I've ween SO MANY of my friends from kindergarden get pregnant, drop out of school, get arrested...those kinds of things. It's really sad to think how different our lives are, when we started out on the same page.
i think it must bother him. he wrote a song about the girl. he thinks about her that much. he remembers little things about her. i sometimes play this song on my guitar, and its so great, and so sad. it must bother him. ben folds did a cover of this song thats really good as well.
Built to Spill of course! Ben Folds isn't capable of writing songs this good.
@ZEROpumpkins lol brutal, but I do think Ben Fold's cover is better than the Built To Spill original, it has a better ambiance to it, sorry not sorry

this song makes me want to cry. it has so many meanings for me, i dont know if i could put any of it into words
This songs is one of my favorite songs ever made. And its a shame Built To Spill has never gotten credit for such a beautiful song. It is a really sad song, as mentioned before. In my opinion this song has a lot to do with a feeling that he wishes he could be child again when things were so simple.
i don't think it bothers him.
we are all familiar with nostalgia, and i know that is something everyone in the whole wide world can relate to. i also know it is one of the most confusing feelings out there. i believe that yes, it does bother him that he can't have the times he shared with this girl back - but he doesn't particularly want to be part of her present day life (because her present day life is not what he is missing, he is missing the past)
he is looking back on these memories and is content because he knows they were great memories and ones he will always have. it is almost like he misses the time he spent with the girl, moreso than the girl herself.
heh, yeah, this song has made me cry. it describes so well everyone's life though. I'm sure it has to bother him. Well not so much as bother, but look back knowlingly and sort of disappointed. It sort of reminds me of this book I read in school a long time ago, My Antonia. I do love this song, though. My favorite from Built to Spill.

My first built to spill song, so entrancing. MUST be followed by "Some" so if you have it on a mix, take it off!! Unless you have Some after it. Whenever Doug performs this live he changes the last line and it always brings a tear to my eye in a beautiful way: Last I heard was she had twins Or maybe it was three Although I've never seen Except for in my dreams...
