Opium

Kurt Cobain was not addicted to opium, he was addicted to heroin. They are two different substances. Also, the song is not about Cobain's addiction. It is about opium.

Is it me, or does this song end too early? i wish it was like 7 minutes long...:( makes me appreciate it that much more..

Anyone who thinks this song is about anything other than Opium, has never had or been addicted to Opium. The words and melody conjure up the exact feeling that Opium gives. That warm, blue, lazy alright feeling. No matter what is going on in your life...if Opium is inside your brain, everything feels like a gentle blue heaven. Like floating in cool water...The line "I'm just gagging on all the alright" reminds me of one of the first times I had tea made from Opium poppy pods. It made me gag and throw up, but it wasn't like how you usually feel when something is making you sick. It wasn't that miserable, OMG I'm going to die feeling. No. I was bending over the toilet gagging, but I was smiling...relaxed....alright. Just gagging on all the all right.

It might sound like I'm glorifying Opium and it is glorious, for a while. Especially if you have the type of disposition that's always depressed or anxious...but make no mistake, for all the good it does, it takes payment out 10 fold. Any bit of joy, happiness, relaxation you get from this drug, will be met by depression, fear and pain when you withdraw and even before withdrawal comes tolerance....when you need more and more of the stuff to get only a fraction of the feeling you did when you first started...and eventually it doesnt make you feel good anymore, but you still need it to keep from getting sick. That's Opium...Its like God's love and mercy combined with the Devil's revenge, all in one small plant.

This song reminds me of Pink Floyd...That whole drug induced calm euphoria...

Marcy Playground was a one hit wonder on MTV, but I think if more people had given them a chance for more than "Sex & Candy" they would see that they are horribly underrated.

i agree with thisboy. this is a band that is very underrated, which is unfortunate. they're a great band.

of course, it probably didn't help that the radio/mtv overplayed "Sex & Candy," either.

Sex & Candy was good before it was played 5,000 times. I wouldn't have bought their CD except that my friend's sister was always playing it and I got sort of hooked after a few visits...

hey you know when you thikn song is so freakishly perfect and then you realize something about it then its EVEN MORE perfect but you couldnt think it possible? Well that JUST happened!

I alwyas thought the last line was also "seasons come from opium" but i was sadly mistaken! ITS SEIZURES! WHAT A REVELATION!

Really sad song. What I get out of it is something (opium) making him feel good, or making things seem okay...but that last line....about seizures...sends chills up my spine. great song.

marcy playground's self titled album is the most underrated cd of all time. it is completely unfair that when i ask anyone if theyve heard of this band, they reply with "oh yeah, they sing that weird song sex and candy dont they". these guys should be the biggest band in the world purely because of that album.

I agree Marcy Playgrounds self titled is one of my favorites of all time, however its success as well as downfall was from the success of sex and candy. I believe that the band talked about not includeing this single on their debut cd because it would take away from the other songs, which it did for most people.
Anyway I think this song is about being depressed, and using drugs ( in this case opium ) to get through your depression, until the side effects start to take effect...
