Ancient Walls Of Flowers Lyrics
Ancient walls of flowers tumblin' down
Black cat petals and a smiling clown
I like to keep them in a jar beside
Just enough to mess my mind inside
But I never heard you callin' from the sun
Did you ever care to shoot your silver gun
No I never heard you callin' from the moon
Did you ever care to sing your free love tune
Ancient walls of whispers falling low
Murmur simmer and I'm feeling slow
Keep me up but keep me in my head
I'll ping a pound of posies 'til I'm dead
But I never heard you callin' from the sun
Did you ever care to shoot your silver gun
No I never heard you callin' from the moon
Did you ever care to sing your free love tune
Ancient walls of flowers tumblin' down
Ancient walls of flowers tumblin' down
Ancient walls of whispers tumblin' down
Ancient walls are tumblin' all over this town
Black cat petals and a smiling clown
I like to keep them in a jar beside
Just enough to mess my mind inside
But I never heard you callin' from the sun
Did you ever care to shoot your silver gun
No I never heard you callin' from the moon
Did you ever care to sing your free love tune
Murmur simmer and I'm feeling slow
Keep me up but keep me in my head
I'll ping a pound of posies 'til I'm dead
But I never heard you callin' from the sun
Did you ever care to shoot your silver gun
No I never heard you callin' from the moon
Did you ever care to sing your free love tune
Ancient walls of flowers tumblin' down
Ancient walls of whispers tumblin' down
Ancient walls are tumblin' all over this town

I believe this song is about Papaver Somniferum, the opium poppy. As are many songs on this album (Poppies, and Opium). I think the lyrics are actually "Black cat petals and a smiling crown" because when an opium poppy is ready for harvest the "crown" on the seed pod curls up, a smiling crown. To make poppy tea you add the seed pods to lightly boiling water "Murmur simmer and I'm feeling slow" the simmering of the pods and the "feeling slow" as the effects of the opiates.
After "Sex and Candy", I guess I wasn't sure exactly what to expect from this band... but I gotta say this song is awesome.. One of those good 'chill' songs. just put on repeat, and relax.
it seems to me being like
all ur memories are fading away...
nifty song!
Preeeety sure this song (along with many of his) is about Sherry Fraser.
I agree, this song is about drugs.
Did anyone notice how similar the first few chords sound to Neil Young's "Down By The River" ?
