Reasons to Be Beautiful Lyrics
Love hangs herself
With the bedsheets in her cell
Threw myself on fires for you
10 good reasons to stay alive
10 good reasons that I can't find
Oh, give me a reason to be beautiful
So sick in his body, so sick in his soul
Oh, give me one reason to be beautiful
Oh, and everything I am
Love hates you
I live my life in ruins for you
And for all your secrets kept
I squashed the blossom and the blossom's dead
Oh, give me a reason to be beautiful
So sick in his body, so sick in his soul
Oh, and I will make myself so beautiful
Oh, and everything I am
Miles and miles of perfect skin
I swear I do, I fit right in
My love burns through everything
I cannot breathe
Miles and miles of perfect sin
I swear, I said, I fit right in
I fit right in your perfect skin
I cannot breathe
Hey, baby, take it all the way...down
Hey, baby, taste me anyway
Oh, you were born
So pretty oh summerbabe
We'll never know...
And fading like a rose
Give me a reason to be beautiful
So sick in his body, so sick in his soul
I'll give you my body, just sell me your soul
Oh, and everything I am will be bought and sold
Oh, and everything I am will turn hard and cold
And they say in the end
You'll get bitter just like them
And they steal your heart away
When the fire goes out you better learn to fake
It's better to rise than fade away...
Hey you were right
Named a star for your eyes
Did you freeze did you weep
Turn to gold, baby, sleep
Hey honey mine
I was there all the time
And I weep at your feet
And it rains and rains
With the bedsheets in her cell
Threw myself on fires for you
10 good reasons to stay alive
10 good reasons that I can't find
Oh, give me a reason to be beautiful
So sick in his body, so sick in his soul

This song is about a list that Courtney Love wrote. It was 10 reasons to be beautiful and 10 reasons to not be beautiful. They band liked the list so much that they were going to call the album 10 Reasons To Be Beautiful. And will you dumbasses stop assuming every song that Courtney wrote is either by Kurt or written by him. peace
This is a nice violent grunge song. Courtney Love screams all the way through it. It is one of the harder rock songs on Celebrity Skin. It doesn't have much melody, so it's not one of my favorite songs. But I do like the pure anger and sadness of her voice singing about love, death, suicide. She puns on her name at the begining of this song. This song is probably written to Kurt Cobain as are some other of Courtney's songs. It describes a lover that she would do anthing to save but can't. This song has lovely images in it. The most signifigant part of this song is the part where she replies to Kurt Cobain's suicide note where he wrote ''It is better to burn out than to fade away'' quoting someone. She writes ''When the fire goes out you better learn to fake/It's better to rise than fade away''. That contradicts the begining where she says she cannot find 10 good reasons to stay alive.By the end of the song the speaker realizes it is better to survive.

@Christianna , you’re right - that rework of burn out than fade away quote is too coincidental, it’s defo about Kurt

This song is about being lost in life... not knowing where you fit in... perhaps some references to Kurt in there somewhere, he was her fucking husband after all. This song is the sex.
courtney once said somethin about how she'll start writing a song about one thing and by the end of it, the topic will have changed. so i guess it's guna be near to impossible to figure out what each song is about, it's def down to your own interpritation (sp?). when i first got this album i thought every song was about kurt, i think her head is messed up and has been for a long time now but not everything is about kurt. hey, it's the drugs, it's her low self-worth it's everything we know and love about her! rock on hole
I think it has to do with her emotions towards Kurt's suicide. I think frustration with people she was with after Kurt's death influenced the beginning of the song: "Love hangs herself, With the bedsheets in her cell"
Also with that particular line I feel like she's saying "She hurts herself in Love (referring to herself 'Courtney Love' and her love for Kurt) by continuing to be with guys who get into bad shit again and again. I remember Courtney saying something about picking bad boyfriends after Kurt's death. Maybe attempting the same thing over & over again expecting different results.
I think the song started as frustration with her love life & ended with her pain of Kurt's death. The music in the song sounds that way too. It starts off in an almost angry tone & by the end it has a melancholic tone to it. I agree with that_sullen_girl about Courtney starting out with one topic and it changes.
and I agree with ThePersianRose about Courtney quoting Kurt's suicide note. I actually read a speach she made on a tape that was played at some public memorial ceremony after his death and she said in it something like "and don't remember this because it's a fucking lie. It's better to burn out than fade away. God you [Kurt] asshole!"
That wasn't word for word. But she was reading part of his suicide note to the public and that was one part she read & commented on.
@meggawesome I read a biography on Courtney once and she was arrested for something (maybe shoplifting). I think the charges were going to be dropped but she destroyed the sheets in her cell and was charged with that instead (destruction of property). I always just assumed thats what the first line was about - her - and making things more difficult for herself.

im surprised no one said anything yet...great song..one of my favorite hole songs.......the ending always made me think it could of been about kurt cobain- the whole "It's better to rise than fade away..." thing
to me this song is about courtneys feelings maybe towards kurt...i think shes trying tell how much she loves him because theirs no way that he can know."we'll never know, and fading like a rose".."threw myself on fires for you, 10 good reasons to stay alive..blah blah" i think this is probably shes done so much for him and it means nothing and she cant do anything about it she wants to die. the whole song is pretty much saying hes so perfect for her, but she feels like theres nothing she can do about it. maybe im wrong. thats just what i think. i definatly know how she feels, but the guy i love isnt dead.
this song is so addicting. SO addicting. i listening to it too much, not that there's anything wrong with that :D
excellent song i love it
I heard rumors that this song is about her murdering Kurt. "Love hates you I live my life in ruins for you And for all your secrets kept I squashed the blossom and the blossom's dead"... but I refuse to believe she killed him.
And I think the lyrics "So sick in his body, so sick in his soul" has something to do how she's always overshadowed by Kurt, even after his death.
@DeliciousDemon It's nearly a decade later and man, listening to this song just now I had the same realization. So many lines are extremely creepy and damning when read through that lens, especially the last verse. Select lines:

"It's better to rise than fade away." Obviously referring to herself in contrast to him. He's dead, she made it.
"Did you freeze? Did you weep?" When whomever it was pulled that shotgun on him, she's wondering how he reacted. Probably the most disturbing line (if interpreted this way).
"Turn to gold, baby sleep" His death granted her the rights to his music and money.
The rest of the verse sounds like she's expressing some guilt but also but also justifying it; like it was something she had to do for herself and her ambitions.
