Westbound Sign Lyrics
Boxed up
All of her favorite things
Sold the rest at a rainy yard sale
Big plans and leaving friends and
A westbound sign
Weighed out
Her choices on a scale
Prevailing nothing made sense
Just transportation and a
Blank decision...
She's taking off
Taking off...
Taking off...
Taking off...
No time and no copping out
She's burning daylight and petrol
Blacked out the rearview mirror
Heading westward on
Strung out
On confusion road
And ten minute nervous breakdowns
Xanex a beer for thought
And she determined...
She's taking off
Taking off...
Taking off...
Taking off...
Is it salvation?
Or an escape from discontent?
Will she find her name
In the California cement?
Punched out of the grind
That punched her one too many times...
Is tragedy 2000 miles away?
She's taking off
Taking off...
Taking off...
Taking off...
All of her favorite things
Sold the rest at a rainy yard sale
Big plans and leaving friends and
A westbound sign
Weighed out
Her choices on a scale
Prevailing nothing made sense
Just transportation and a
Blank decision...
Taking off...

A great song worthy of more comments. Sounds very punk to me and maybe isn't viewed because it, and may or may not deal with domestic violence. But that's just my theory.
Good interpretation.
i think billie joe wrote this song about his wife, adrienne, when she ran away from home cause she couldnt take it been alone and just the pressure and all, etc,. billie was missing at home.
yeah that would make sense i suppose. good tune. great song :D.
X peace X
This song is about a girl that's leaving an abusive relationship to follow her dreams. the "punched her one too many times" line makes that pretty clear
i think the punching isnt literal. i like the adrienne theory
The Adrienne theory is correct.
It's just about her moving to where Billie was going to be.
This is my favorite Green Day song. And it's hard to pick just one.
Iy's odd that Disney is hoing to use this for the movie "Cars". I never thought Disney wold use a GD song. I agree with the Adrienne theory.
Hi.. a small detail...right before the 1st chorus on the 9th and 10th line I think it´s "just refutation and a quick decision", and other minor details that don´t really change ideas of the song.. overall a great song, i love it!! and it should have more comments! :)
